Huawei’s economic influence in Hungary growing – study

huawei_logo

The influence of Huawei Technologies on Hungary’s economy has grown over the past five years, with one-seventh of its European spending taking place in Hungary last year, according to a study by Oxford Economics.

Huawei contributed 600.5 million euros to Hungary’s GDP last year through its European activities, according to the analysis cited by Huawei Technologies Hungary. Its contribution has grown steadily, averaging 5.5 percent each year between 2015 and 2019.

Last year Huawei contracted goods worth 1.18 billion euros from its Hungarian suppliers, accounting for 14.1 percent of the company’s European purchases, which have grown markedly — by an annual 4.8 percent since 2015.

Huawei’s activities supported the employment of 21,500 Hungarian employees last year,

up from 18,900 in 2015, an average annual increase of 3.3 percent.

State revenues have grown accordingly:

Huawei generated revenues of 246.4 million euros last year, up 5.7 percent from 2015.

The company has boosted its ICT investments in Hungary in recent years and has contracts with more than 600 Hungarian partners involved in developments such as the country’s 5G network. Hungary is also home to Huawei’s largest supply centre outside of China.

As we wrote on October, Huawei is setting up a research and development centre in Budapest, details HERE.

5G to become available in all parts of Budapest!

5G Vodafone Budapest

Vodafone Hungary will connect 5G at almost 200 base stations in and around Budapest, making the service available in nearly the entire area of the Hungarian capital.

The Ministry of Innovation and Technology has previously announced that Hungary has favourable network conditions for the introduction of new mobile technologies, and domestic 4G coverage is among the top ten in the world.

This year, a new milestone has been realised by the telecommunications company, Vodafone Hungary. Based on the company’s announcement, in April 2020, Vodafone Hungary acquired additional frequencies for its 5G mobile services at the frequency auction conducted by NMHH; thanks to which, construction of the service provider’s 5G network could successfully start.

Furthermore, Vodafone has now announced the latest milestone in its 5G developments: it will switch to 5G at nearly 200 base stations in the upcoming weeks, making 5G available to customers in almost the entire capital.

According to the Vice Chairman of the Board of Vodafone Hungary, “The construction and hardware development of the concerned base stations is almost terminated; after software testing, we will launch the service in the upcoming weeks, which will allow hundreds of thousands customers to experience the amazing capabilities of the new generation mobile network, and take another significant step to make Hungary at the forefront of digital Europe.”

As the Hungarian news portal Index reports, Vodafone Hungary will provide 40 MHz of its frequency set to Budapest University of Technology and Economics in the 3500 MHz band. Thanks to which, the frequency will be suitable for the operation of the indoor experimental 5G network of the university in its whole area, as well as for the creation of the open innovation environment and 5G Laboratory.

The declaration of the 5G coalition in Hungary was signed in 2017 with the technological cooperation of 46 governmental and market participants, professional organisations, industrial interest groups and universities.

As a result of recent developments, 5G will be available at all domestic service providers by the end of this year.

You would never guess what type of mobile phone PM Orbán uses!

Viktor Orbán mobile outdated

Many say that without a smartphone, one can easily lose out on a lot of information circulating through different applications and social media. However, based on the photo he posted on his Facebook page, it seems that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is a bit conservative in that regard. But the reasons behind his “choice” might be interesting.

According to hvg, leading politicians cannot choose and use the phone they would like. This is due to security reasons since smartphone systems can more easily be cracked through the apps downloaded on them than older phone types. And that

can cause significant problems for the national security agencies of any country.

This can be the reason why Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán posted a photo today in which he showed that he was speaking with Charles Michel, President of the European Council. PM Orbán said “Day forty-two. I spoke with the President of the European Council on crisis management and the EU budget.”

PM Viktor Orbán showed his phone for the first time in the Hungarian media, a Nokia 6700 Classic. However, there were gossips even before in the country that the PM is not a big admirer of the fancy new technologies and inventions in the telecommunications sector. His press secretary confirmed yesterday that the Nokia 6700 Classic is the PM’s phone, so it was not used only to take the photo and post it. He added that

Viktor Orbán has been using that type for years

because he sticks to the things that have already proven their worth. According to 24, in 2010, the Prime Minister used a Nokia 6300 which did not have Internet access.

The Finnish producer put the device on the market in 2009. The screen of the phone has 2.2 cols, and its type is TFT, so the PM cannot follow Netflix series, but he can read his emails on it. Furthermore, the system running on it is the development of Nokia called Symbian. We cannot take very good photos with it because its front camera is only 2.2 megapixels while the back one is 5 megapixels. Moreover, the standby time of the battery is 300 hours.

According to hvg, the PM chose well since such devices are more difficult to tap or crack. In contrast,

US President Donald Trump uses an iPhone

even though many have already warned him that it is risky to use such smart devices. Interestingly, he denied that he uses a smartphone, but later he got caught with one. Barack Obama listened to his security advisors and then changed his BlackBerry to an older type.

Coronavirus info button and notifications added to the LifeSaver app

lifesaver Hungary vodafone

As of today, two novel features are introduced to the Life Saver (Életmentő) application of the Vodafone Foundation and the National Ambulance Service, which help the public in the current situation triggered by the coronavirus pandemic.

One such feature is the Coronavirus Information button, which takes users directly to the Hungarian Government’s official coronavirus information site, and the other significant piece of innovation, which is extremely useful in the current situation is that the application can now generate push notifications to inform users about important, fresh developments. These innovations were made possible with the support and participation of the Tigra Informatics Group.

In the current situation triggered by the coronavirus, two important novel features have been added to the LifeSaver application, which has been downloaded by more than 450 000 people since its launch 2 months ago.

One of novel features is the Coronavirus Information button, which takes users directly to the Hungarian Government’s official coronavirus information site (https://koronavirus.gov.hu/), now making this important information site directly accessible from the LifeSaver application.

The other useful innovation is that the application can now send the most up-to-date, essential information to those who have downloaded the LifeSaver app in so-called push messages or notifications. To be able to use this function, it is important that users allow the application to send notifications when downloading the Life Saver application. Those who had downloaded the app earlier must enable two options for the Life Saver app in the Settings menu of their handsets: the automatic downloading of updates and notifications.

“At Vodafone Hungary, we are working to support Hungary in the extremely difficult situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic, in every way we can. In such times, being well-informed is of paramount importance, so we wanted to help with this both the authorities and the public. Thus, we encourage people to download the LifeSaver app both for themselves and their loved ones, if they haven’t already done so.” – said Dr. Gergő J. Budai, Director of External Affairs at Vodafone Hungary.

Push messages are messages that pop up on the screens of smartphones and come from other applications, in this case from the LifeSaver app. Their advantage is that the user receives these important messages even when the application is not open on their phone or they are not using their handset. The National Ambulance Service recommends that everyone should authorise these notifications, as this allows the app to send important messages and warnings to users.

“The primary purpose of the LifeSaver app is to make it easier to call for help, allowing ambulance crews to get abundant information fast. The upgrade adds new features to the app that can also indirectly support the saving of lives.” – emphasised Dr. Gábor Csató, Director General of the National Ambulance Service.

The LifeSaver application was launched in January 2020 in co-operation between the Vodafone Hungary Foundation and the National Ambulance Service. The primary purpose of the application is to allow people to call for help faster and more efficiently. In the application, the user can upload health information in advance, which is instantly displayed on the monitor of control room staff when the emergency call is made. And its super-accurate positioning system helps emergency crews find the person in trouble fast, even if they cannot provide an exact address.

In the two months since its launch, the app has been downloaded by more than 450 000 people and initiated close to 2 500 emergency calls, of which 680 were cases requiring actual medical care.

China calls on France not to discriminate against Huawei in 5G rollout

The Chinese Embassy in Paris said it took note of recent media reports that Chinese technology company Huawei could face restrictions on its 5G development in France, calling on local authorities to “treat all companies equally.”

In a statement released on Sunday, the embassy said that “We are deeply shocked and concerned,” adding that “President Emmanuel Macron and other senior French officials have repeatedly reaffirmed that France would not take discriminatory measures against a specific country or company, and it would not exclude Huawei.”

“We fully understand the concerns of a sovereign country over the security of 5G networks. But they have to be based on science and facts, and the measures taken must be proportionate.”

Rejecting security fears about Huawei, the embassy stressed that the Chinese telecoms giant offers “important technology, cost and market advantages.”

“In fact, Huawei’s 5G equipment is completely reliable and has never presented any technical or security risk, nor left any ‘back doors’,” it stressed.

According to French media reports, the Chinese company could face restrictions in the country’s main cities and the validity period of its authorization could be significantly shorter than that of European equipment manufacturers, such as Nokia and Ericsson.

“If, due to security concerns, the French government truly does have to impose constraints on operators, it should establish transparent criteria around this and treat all companies equally,” said the embassy.

It warned that selecting companies according to their country of origin is “an overt discrimination and disguised protectionism,” which “goes against the principles of a market economy and free trade.”

China has never shown France the slightest concern about national security. We hope that our two countries can maintain mutual trust and further strengthen it by cooperating in 5G,” the embassy said.

UK gives Huawei green light to help build 5G network

vodafone 5g

The British government on Tuesday approved a restricted role for Huawei in building the country’s 5G network.

Huawei, the Shenzhen-based networking and telecommunications equipment and services supplier, said that it is reassured by the British government’s confirmation that it can continue working with the customers to keep the 5G roll-out on track.

“The evidence-based decision will result in a more advanced, more secure and more cost-effective telecoms infrastructure that is fit for the future,” Victor Zhang, vice-president of Huawei, said.

The latest decision came nearly a year after the British government said it would mull whether to allow Huawei infrastructure kit on the nation’s 5G mobile network.

Other European countries, including Germany, are also expected to make decisions on the Chinese tech giant. European leaders have said that building 5G network could be costlier and slower without Huawei equipment.

“I think that decision for the UK could have ramifications into the decisions in other markets as well,” Kester Mann, director of consumer and connectivity from CCS Insight, told Xinhua.

“If Huawei is banned from some countries, I think it’s to no one’s real benefit,” Mann said. CCS Insight is a research and advisory company focused on the mobile communications sector.

“Huawei’s technology is already deeply embedded in the global standards that underpin 5G,”

said University of Cambridge Judge Business School Professor Peter Williamson. “The costs to the UK of excluding Huawei would be huge and complete exclusion is virtually impossible.”

Chinese Ambassador to Britain Liu Xiaoming has earlier warned that banning Huawei could mean back-pedalling for Britain, which would leave it trailing behind on technology.

His concerns are shared by several British telecommunications operators, which have admitted that banning Huawei equipment would delay Britain’s 5G roll-out.

Huawei UK “has created huge job opportunities for the local community, contributed to the telecommunications sector in the UK and played a positive part in the economic and social progress here in this country,” Liu said at an event in London on Monday night.

Critics have said that the U.S. government is fabricating “Huawei risk” in the name of “national security.”

The Science and Technology Select Committee of the British House of Commons has concluded that there are no technical grounds for excluding Huawei entirely from Britain’s 5G or other telecommunications networks.

China has repeatedly stressed that it had never and will never ask companies or individuals to collect data, information or intelligence in others countries by illegal means.

Statistics showed that from 2012 to 2017, Huawei brought 2 billion pounds (about 2.6 billion U.S. dollars) to Britain through investment and procurement, and created 26,000 jobs. In early 2018, the company pledged to invest a further 3 billion pounds (about 3.9 billion dollars) in the country over the next five years.

Budapest public transport – E-ticket system will be tested from June

Villamos - Budapest tömegközlekedés

There will be no price increase; digital tickets will be available at the same price as the traditional ones.

Edit Juhász, Secretary of financial and public utility services, announced that the test period of e-ticket project in Budapest public transport will get started by next month.

As she said – “The most important elements of a modern and efficient public transport system are cashless ticket payment and e-ticketing”.

In June 2018, The National Mobile Payment Plc. introduced its project of mobile-based ticket payment that turned out to be an excellent solution to avoid queuing-up for long hours. Later on, Kecskemét and Debrecen also joined this procedure.

It is important to mention that the digital ticket system will issue no additional cost, neither regarding public transport nor in the case of adventure parks. They will be available at their original price.

According to Mihály Veres, Chief Executive of The National Mobile Payment Plc., the most demanded services of the five-year-old mobile payment system are motorway vignettes and parking, while they are continuously working on providing more services to their clientele. The system has completed 137 million transactions so far, satisfying 2.6 million users. He added – 95 service providers were integrated into the system, including banks, mobile operators and Hungarian SMEs.

According to the Chief Executive, public services should be digitalised as it would result in a more transparent and trustworthy digital economy. The cloud-based infrastructure provides the integration of the service providers, while consumers have the freedom of choice by the complex platform.

As it is reported by the Hungarian news portal szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu, the company supports the idea of making electronic products available at a lower price than those which are purchased in a traditional cash-based way. The number of electronic payments in Hungary shows an increasing tendency; however, 80% of money circulation still happens in cash, which should be changed – added Mihály Veres.

The majority of them are state subsidies and social allowances. By way of example, educational support could be demanded by mobile payment. The proportion of e-payment could reach 50% if such social transfers would be resolved by applying digital tools.

Hungarian company’s system the new favourite across the world!

Bitrise, Hungarian, company, mobile phones, apps

The Hungarian Bitrise is not a well-known company by the public because they create special devices and methods for programmers, so the average Internet user is not familiar with the company. On the other hand, the company is becoming the most prominent one in the world because, for example, their establishments which make mobile phone applications and platforms easier are used in Japan and in the Silicon Valley (USA).

Index reported that the company took another big step forward and managed to invest in the buying of another company because its analytic skills and methods are perfect for further innovation and experiments. This company is called Outlyer in London which has customers like Netflix and the BBC. Thanks to the investment, the company will have fifty new members and new offices in San Francisco and London.

The English company will be an important part of the Hungarian one to make mobile apps more effective and to improve their reputation. Bitrise so far got $3.5 million from investments (3 million EUR) and is the only Hungarian company which is part of the most popular business incubator programme called Y-Combinator.

There are approximately 20 million app-users in the world, and change is the only permanent thing in this industry. Each day, users get several notifications for app updates, and the aim of Bitrise is to make the managing process of these updates easier. The company believes that the best way to make themselves more popular lies in perfect communication and in trying their new methods and services.

Bitrise users not only share their positive experience among themselves but with people who are not familiar with it as well.

With this Bitrise platform, companies can reduce the time it takes to test mobile apps before they reach online markets. The procedure is simple: when they install a new feature in their app, Bitrise notifies them if there is a possibility of misfunction. To sum up, they create an automatic procedure for what would be the most annoying task when creating a new app.

The world’s prominent startup companies do not have much time for testing, and that is why the Hungarian app is useful.

The next aim of the company is to invest in the innovation of mobile games.

Each year, billions of smartphones are sold around the world. The market is a competitive one, but the offerings from Samsung and Apple are undoubtedly the most popular. Each year new iterations are released and despite some slowdown in sales for Apple, the market is a healthy one.

People spend thousands of dollars on these smartphones, so they want to protect them from accidental damage. This desire to protect smartphones has created a thriving market for iPhone and Samsung phone cases.

This market is an off-shoot of the smartphone market, and it has grown immensely in recent years. There are countless providers on the market offering a diverse range of products in terms of quality, price, and functionality.

Velvet Caviar is one such company, and it is aiming to truly revolutionize the market with innovative and high-quality products. Its recent rapid growth demonstrates that the company and its team of leading designers are succeeding.

What is it that makes the Velvet Caviar offering so unique? Here’s a closer look at why this is one company to watch when it comes to smartphone cases.

Form and Function

Until now, there were two types of smartphone case on the market: ugly and unwieldy options that put protection above aesthetics, and beautiful smartphone cases that didn’t offer the necessary protection.

Velvet Caviar is here to change this by offering a smartphone case that brings together form and function.

Customers can browse through thousands of stunning designs and rest assured that each case is just as strong as the next. Using only the highest-quality materials, cases from Velvet Caviar can protect a customer’s smartphone as they use it each and every day.

Beautiful Designs

The designs on Velvet Caviar cases are truly beautiful and they are proving to be wildly popular. The company works with top designers in order to get the very best designs in a range of categories.

Customers can shop for clear cases, furry cases, floral cases, marble phone cases and many more. Each of these designs is just as stunning as the next, and form is also taken into consideration. If the owner prefers a wallet case those are available, as well as furry cases which help owners to standout from the crowd.

Cases for the most Popular Devices

A big reason behind the success of Velvet Caviar is the range of devices that are supported.

All of the most popular devices are accounted for, including all of the key iPhone and Galaxy models. Given that these are the most popular types of device on the market, it’s little wonder that customers appreciate the offering from Velvet Caviar.

Popularity on Social Media

Another reason that Velvet Caviar is gathering speed is its prominence and popularity on social media. Given that the designs and case options available on the market help people to express themselves, many people enjoy sharing photos of the cases on social media.

Of course, smartphones also play a prominent role in the lives of many people. We pick them up hundreds of times a day, so people want to feel happy with the look of their device. Other people also recognize the prominent designs and become interested in the supplier.

A Bright Future

As smartphones continue to become more and more popular, the demand for quality phone cases will only increase in tandem. The number of providers of smartphone cases is staggering, but the few quality providers will rise to the top and offer smartphone users a product that brings together form and function.

The offering from Velvet Caviar could well be a strong contender to become the dominant force.

Video of Hungarian teenage girl reaches more than a million views on Facebook

The girl used the successor of Musical.ly app, TikTok, to create her video. Then it was posted to Facebook and went viral immediately.

Musical.ly was an application where one could make funny videos by lip-synching to songs. The app was acquired by ByteDance, who merged it with their similar app TikTok, reports Szeretlek Magyarország.

The primary purpose remained the same: create 15-minute-long videos to popular hits. Lip-synch, jump, do whatever is fun.

Musical.ly users – commonly known as musers – now have to use TikTok instead of their favourite application. The latter is quite popular in China as Douyin, which was the second most popular iOS app in the first quarter of 2018, having 100 million active users per month.

In Hungary, the most popular muser was the daughter of Norbert Schobert and Réka Rubint, fitness instructors. Lara Schobert was leading the rankings of the site for a long time before it was rebranded and many other teenagers started to create their own videos.

The funnier videos you make, the more popular you will be. A Hungarian girl decided to create one from a unique approach, using the mixture of Childish Gambino’s song This is America, a Hungarian video in which someone tells the snowplow to clean the road (of course with a little more temper), and the remix of a Hungarian folk song called Érik a szőlő. The video has more than a million views on Facebook now. See it for yourself below:

According to the psychologist Szilvia Eitler, these applications can be a great fun for children, but it is at least as dangerous as well, especially because of the negative comments they receive. Parents should be aware of these, although they usually do not see the problem through. Parents should be checking the content their children share through their mobile phones, be aware of what and how their kids are doing on these websites and the comments they receive in order to prevent them from depression and cyber harassment etc., she said in an interview on Duna TV.

Great Hungarian invention immediately alerting authorities in case of an accident

device accident prevention

An amazing Hungarian invention can reduce the number of casualties of fatal car accidents when every precious minute matters, reports Forbes.hu. The new automatic emergency calling system would be different from the so-far well-known factory-installed eCall system present in new cars in the respect that it can be installed later on as well thus expanding its availability for older cars.

Even these days, lots of road accidents happen due to human negligence, and compared to the number of people living in Hungary, our traffic-related death rate is far above the EU average. In 2016, for instance, 607 Hungarians died in traffic accidents.

A new legislation introduced in the European Union from the beginning of April 2018 can ameliorate the situation since it makes the installation of an eCall automatic emergency calling system into every vehicle obligatory.

This device automatically alerts the authorities in the moment when the accident happens and based on previous estimations; its introduction can reduce the mortality rate by 4%.

accident death

The device is composed of two parts: an onboard unit installed in the vehicle and a SIM card that can be purchased from mobile phone operators. This gadget works like a smartphone, and its onboard unit can perceive with its sensors if an accident happens, reports E-call.hu.

If the driver is involved in a car accident, the device immediately sends information to emergency line 112 about the circumstances of the accident, including the GPS coordinates, the vehicle identification number, the exact time when the incident happened and the number of passengers involved in it. In addition to this, the dispatcher of the emergency center can make guesses about the severity of the incident based on the feedback of the sensors.

In order to preserve the privacy rights of everyone, the system is only activated in case of emergency. Consequently, authorities would not get information through the network about the speed and route of the vehicle. The most considerable advantage of this invention is that no personal intervention is needed to activate the system which is essential if the injured passengers cannot call for help.

On average, 75,000 people die every day, 30,000 altogether in a year, due to the delay of the authorities arriving on the spot. The cause of the delay can be that casualties cannot call for help when they are trapped under debris, lose their consciousness or when their mobile gets damaged.

However, this new Hungarian invention solves this problem by focusing on older cars as well since the eCall system is only obligatory to install in new cars. Given that in Hungary and Europe mostly older cars are in circulation, their drivers should also enjoy the advantage of this system that considerably reduces the time of the arrival of assistance.

For this reason, the Albacomp RI System Integration Ltd., the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and the Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd. for Applied Research collaborated and invented such an eCall system that can be installed into vehicles later on as well. Therefore, the new system coming true thanks to the financial assistance of the European Union is not going to exclude the owners and passengers of older vehicles from the advantage of the device, that is to have professional help as soon as possible.

We hope that this invention will help a lot for authorities and its usage will become more widespread shortly!

Are you afraid of walking home at night? A Hungarian woman will guide you safely all the way

walk alone night dark

According to Infostart.hu, a new phone line has been launched in Hungary that provides the perfect solution for those being afraid of walking home alone at night. By dialling the number, and paying the regular price, people can feel more secure talking with someone while walking home. Here is the Hungarian person behind the realisation of this great idea in Hungary.

It can be terrifying to walk home alone at night from a workplace or a party especially if the individual is a woman. This is why a new phone line has been launched in Hungary by Maren Csiki Molnár who would like to make the service free and available throughout the week so that everyone can easily find an interlocutor while walking home. To make all these possible, the inventor of this service recruits enthusiastic volunteers to join her team.

In fact, it was not her who invented this service because it has been in operation in Berlin for several years now. It was here that Maren Csiki Molnár heard about this service and decided to launch it in Budapest as well. She started the service without advertising it, but the news of it has spread quickly.

The service is quite simple: the individual dials the phone number and tells Maren where he is at present and where he wants to go. Then, they start a conversation in Hungarian, English or German that can take even an hour. As Maren Csiki Molnár reports, she tries to figure out what the person is interested in and if the individual is devoid of prejudice, the conversation can go on smoothly.

However, the service is not yet available anytime. It is only on Fridays and Saturdays between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. that it can be called and the initial reactions of Hungarians are very positive. The service has been used by a dozen of people so far, and interestingly, they were mostly men. As the inventor believes, they mainly called out of curiosity and not because of being afraid of walking home alone.

The service can be a breakthrough in investigations since, if a crime happens to the person on the other end of the line, Maren Molnár can immediately alert the police or the ambulance and she also knows where the person in question might be. Of course, this does not mean that in case of an incident it is not the police who should be the first to alert.
