András Szabó, the mayor of the village, married an 18-year-old mother last Saturday.
According to Blikk, no residents remained at home in the small Hungarian village last Saturday. Kunhegyes’s main square became crammed with people who wanted to attend the ceremony during which the 78-year-old local mayor tied the knot with a girl 60 years younger than him. Locals called it “the wedding of the century”.
Kunhegyes’s mayor, the 78-year-old András Szabó was elected in 2019 and supported by Fidesz, Orbán’s party. The girl he married is 18-year-old, and she already has a 4-year-old son.
Locals state that she became pregnant with a local man in his thirties when she was only 13-year-old.
The wedding was a hot topic among the village’s residents.
“His former wife was also younger than him, maybe 25 years old. But they divorced in less than a year. Will these two last until their first wedding anniversary?”
Blikk says it was a startling sight how the tall but old groom and the girlish bride walked down the streets to attend their wedding ceremony to the tunes of “Lakodalom van a mi utcánkban“.
People took photos as if a Hollywood star arrived in the village. When they reached the registry office, somebody started to clap, and almost all followed.
Blikk wanted to ask the mayor about the wedding, but he refused to answer. The bride’s mother did not comment on her daughter’s choice either.
Locals are divided about the wedding. József (67) could not imagine his life on the side of a girl 40 years younger than him. He thinks an 18-year-old girl is just a kid. He would marry a woman at least 40.
Júlia is in her 80s, but she was shocked when she heard about the wedding. “This is more than enough. We were together with my husband for 46 years until God called him. I have never seen such a thing.” Andrea Háziné Szabó defended the couple. Her husband is 30 years older, and they raised three kids. “I did not care about others’ opinion. My husband was a man of a kind when he was young. If love comes, it comes” – she added.
A Budapest court has meted out an 8-year prison sentence to a German and a Kosovar national, respectively, and a 9.5-year sentence to another Kosovar national over a violent attack and an armed robbery attempt against an Albanian bakery, in a non-binding ruling on Monday.
The German national, the chief suspect, attacked the owner of the bakery in Pomáz, near Budapest, on the first instance in February 2018, but escaped from the scene, the court said in a statement.
He returned in January 2019 to Hungary and teaming up with two Kosovar accomplices carried out an attack against the same bakery on February 22 carrying a gun and a knife.
They tied the Albanian owner and two employees, and the German national demanded one million euros in cash threatening “to kill them”, if they don’t pay the sum. They also tied the owner’s family member who in the meanwhile entered the shop and a brawl developed during which the gun was thrown away and went off. Residents in the neighbourhood woke up and rushed to rescue the victims.
The court handed the prison term to the German and the Kosovar suspect over attempted robbery, attack and violation of property and maintained their pre-trial detention.
The third suspect received the prison sentence for attempted robbery and instigating an attack and has been placed in pre-trial detention.
The unbelievable behaviour of a Hungarian kitchen worker was recorded by his colleague and published on Reddit.
When we eat out, we hope for the best treatment as we pay a higher price for the food than if we would prepare it at home for ourselves. In a fast-food restaurant, prices are lower, of course, for the lack of waiters and generally the services provided. Nevertheless, these establishments also need to comply with rigorous health regulations.
What happened on August 9 in a Hungarian McDonald’s is the complete opposite. During his night shift, a kitchen worker was preparing a hamburger in a scandalously disgusting way, wrote kuruc.info.
He touched a slice of cheese with the sole of his shoes, then picked up two hamburger patties from the floor.
His colleague recorded the incident, and someone posted the video on Reddit with the following caption: “This is how you should ask for sh*t without cucumber and onion at night, hoping it would be fresh”.He even added a heart emoji. In the original version, you could hear someone in the background saying “extra cheesy”. Since then, the video is not available anymore on the site.

24.hu reached out to the PR agency representing the Hungarian restaurants of McDonald’s. The news site wanted to know whether the agency and the restaurant knew about the incident, if they started an investigation and in which restaurant the outrageous scene happened.
“After receiving the information, we immediately started an internal investigation, which is currently in progress.
We want to clearly state that the behaviour seen on the video is without precedent and absolutely unacceptable in our company.
We pay particular importance to food safety and quality insurance in our McDonald’s restaurants.”
Not long after their answer, the agency sent an announcement directly to the news site. They said that
upon completing the investigation, those involved in the making of the video were fired.
The communiqué also included the words of the two, now ex-workers.They both highlighted that the video was made as a joke at night when there were no customers, and they did not wish to humiliate the fast-food chain. They sent the video to some friends, who made it public and viral.
And this was not the first time that they had done so in that particular playground in Pécs. If police can identify them, they might even receive a prison sentence.
According to TV2’s Tények, the channel’s news magazine, the couple made love in a crowded playground in Pécs, South Hungary, in broad daylight. They did not stop even though many people stood around them (our featured image).
A mother, who was on the playground with her daughter, took a photo of them and sent it to baba.hu. There was an empty bottle of wine near them, and the mother told Tények that
they were probably drunk.
Local people were shocked. However, they highlighted that this is not the first time that they caught a couple like that.
One of the parents said that what happened is flagrant and should not take place in a playground. Another one added that such things could happen because the stimulation threshold of young people has increased by a lot recently.
The couple is not unknown to locals.
They had several conflicts before. For example, they slept on the benches of the playground many times.
Interestingly, nobody has reported the case to the police yet. However, if the authorities can identify and find them, they might
expect several years in prison for indecent exposure.
That was not the first time that Tények reported about such events. A couple of years before, a passenger took video footage of a couple having sex on one of the benches of the railway station of Tatabánya. When they finished, the woman stood up, glanced around, and realised that many people watched what they had done but did not care. She pulled up her trousers and walked away.
Every language has its expressions, phrases, and sayings that might sound funny to foreigners. That is one of the beauties of each and every language. Sometimes, however, these idiomatic expressions cause a laugh even among those who use them naturally as it is a phrase in their mother tongue.
The weather has been quite funny this week in Hungary, with smaller or bigger snowfalls in certain parts of the country.
Restaurants and bars are unfortunately still closed, and so are the borders of the country. We really hope that very soon, you will get the chance to visit our beautiful Hungary (or re-visit it), but until then, we have brought you a list of Hungarian expressions that are either very hard to process or cause a huge laugh when translated to English. Learn one or two of them and impress either your Hungarian friends or people you will meet during your next stay in Budapest.
Hungarian is a beautiful but extremely hard language for foreigners. Truth be told, it can sometimes be tricky even for native speakers, especially when it comes to all our various expressions containing interesting words that simply do not seem to belong in the sentence. In many cases, the reason for the use of a specific word sounding extremely strange or even stupid for someone from the East of Hungary is simply the fact that the expression comes from the other corner of the homeland, where the word in question is used for a specific object. This word can either be another different word used for the same object by our friend coming from the Eastern part, or it simply does not exist in their vocabulary because the object does not exist in their area. Take a look at some of these expressions.
Miért itatod az egereket? – Why are you giving drinks to the mice?
Have you ever given a glass of water to a mouse? I do not think so, we rather fear them and even scream if we see one, let alone give them drinks. Do not think Hungarians are this strange that they do it; the meaning of this sentence is very simple. In Hungary, when asking a crying kid, for instance, for the reason of their sadness, we do not directly ask them the question Why are you crying?, we rather choose this creative way to find the problem and to solve it.
Örül, mint majom a farkának – He is as happy as a monkey about his tail
This sounds fairly funny in English, I think. Monkeys are considered happy animals that have a lot of fun, at least they are depicted this way in movies and cartoons. According to Hungarians, they are the happiest about the fact that they have a tail. Is this true? Well, we should ask an expert to find out, nevertheless, we will continue to use it to say someone is extremely happy about something, and just like monkeys, they would be jumping from joy.
Kutyából nem lesz szalonna – You cannot make bacon out of a dog
This is one of my personal favourites. Everyone likes bacon because it is yummy (at least every Hungarian, we just call it szalonna) and everyone likes cute little puppies. However, when you put the two into one sentence, bacon loses some of its appeal. Luckily, the Hungarian expression states very clearly that you cannot make bacon out of a dog so do not even try it. A slice of dog bacon sounds cruel and not very tasteful, and it is definitely something that stays in your head after you have heard it. We simply use it for someone who will never change, someone who will keep making the same mistakes. Once a thief, always a thief.
Nem kolbászból van a kerítés – The fence is not made of sausage
As we love to use animal names in our expressions, the same is true for food. If you have read any of our articles containing a yummy Hungarian recipe, you already know that food, and especially a tasty and spicy sausage (kolbász), is very important in our little country. Naturally, we will use them quite often in our sayings. But do we have huge family houses surrounded by a sausage fence in the countryside? The answer is no, however, not only because the saying says so, but because it would simply be a crazy (but somewhat delicious) idea. As we LOVE sausage and consider it one of the best things in the world, whenever the fence is not made of sausage, it is simply not as good as you thought it would be. Makes sense, right?
Pandemic or not, life goes on, and as we all know, life can write the strangest of stories. This week, members of the Hungarian civilian patrol service and a security guard helped a woman give birth to her child on a street in Budapest well after the coronavirus curfew.
The members of the Hungarian civilian patrol service who were present reported about their experience to the Budapest civilian patrol, who shared the strange story in a Facebook post on their feed. Hvg noticed the post and called attention to this unusual birth story that will certainly be retold many times during the baby’s journey to adulthood.
According to the original Hungarian Facebook post, the civilian patrol members were fulfilling their duty near Szusza Ferenc Stadion in the fourth district of Budapest when two people drove up to them and asked for their help. The two young people told the civilian patrols that they had seen a woman near the 30A bus terminal who acted strangely. Konrád Balogh János, one of the civilian patrol members, said that they immediately got in their car and went to the location the two young people mentioned.
They were startled as they did not find the woman there, but they did not give up. They started looking for her nearby and found someone in an unusual position standing next to another person on Megyeri Street.
They approached them and immediately noticed that the woman was hunched over and there was blood on the pavement.
They soon reached the scene, but before they could get to the woman and her partner, a security guard filled them in about the events and said that the woman was in labour.
Márk Mester, the other civilian patrol member, said that there was no time for anything, the woman had to deliver the baby then and there.
Both of them tried to help the woman with anything they could and while they tended to the woman, the security guard called an ambulance.
Fortunately, there was no complication during the labour and the woman managed to deliver the baby on the street. According to the Facebook post, the two civilian patrolmen parked their car near the woman and put her and the newborn baby into the car.
They gave her anything they had at hand to warm the mother and the baby up and even turned the heat up in the car to keep the child warm until the ambulance arrived.
Everything went well, the baby was born at 21:50 on Wednesday, March 24th, and both the newborn and the mother are in good health, the Budapest Civilian Patrol wrote in their Facebook post.
Interest in cybersex is soaring as the pandemic has left people subject to lockdowns and travel bans and unable to seek intimacy in the usual ways, according to experience designer Angelina Aleksandrovich.
At the same time, the pandemic has also pushed people’s willingness to use a tech solution to an all-time high.
Aleksandrovich runs a collective called Raspberry Dream Labs which creates multi-sensory cybersex experiences which allow people to enjoy intimate moments together even when they are not in same place.
“Because of COVID a lot of people understood how we can use technology and virtual reality in exciting and expanded ways,” Aleksandrovich told Reuters.
Whereas VR used to be dismissed as something just for gamers it has gone mainstream and is being used in intimacy and dating, she added.
In an industrial unit in North London two volunteers demonstrate her prototype experience combining virtual reality (VR), augmented reality and even smell, delivered through a collar worn around the neck, a head set, and hand-held sensors.
The volunteers see each other as outline human forms through their headsets and can caress each other without ever actually touching.
The experience involves haptic stimulators positioned over erogenous zones, something that could eventually be incorporated into soft robotic ‘underwearables’, said Aleksandrovich.
She argues that as we are happy to allow technology into many aspects of daily life, such as health or finance, we should include the bedroom.
A report in 2019 by US market research firm Arizton said the global market for sexual wellness products is expected to reach around $39 billion by 2024.
Asked what she made of her cyber sex experience, volunteer Victoria Gillett said, “I love it – it is definitely an experience.”
“There is so much going on and it takes a while to take it all in. When it finished I kind of wasn’t ready,” said fellow volunteer Aaron Vandeyar.
You have probably heard of this new movement where people urge us to incorporate insects into our diet as it is less demanding on nature than normal meat-producing animals. Although eating insects is not an entirely new thing for humans, it is not really part of European and Hungarian culture or cuisine. This, however, might change in the foreseeable future.
24 interviewed Mariann Szabó, the chairperson of the Hungarian Bogárétel Alapítvány (Bugfood Foundation) and an enthusiastic supporter of incorporating insects into the Hungarian cuisine. According to the interview, she first encountered the idea on a plaque in a zoo where the article talked about edible insects. Mariann says that she immediately tried to find out more about it and looked it up on the internet. She said that
back then, it was a very new thing in Hungary, and there was no information available in Hungarian. She bought the insects from pet-stores where they were selling them as fodder, or she ordered them online.
She highlights that there are a few benefits of eating insects. In some countries where they are already eating it, one of the reasons is the cost. The movement is getting new vigour and more supporters as it is also part of the environmental issue, or rather the solution.
There were also some strange traditional Hungarian methods to help cure ailments. You can read more about them by clicking HERE.
Mariann says that the main reason is sustainability. Insects can be raised in a much smaller area than cows, and insects can also be raised in vertical spaces. She said that to produce 1 kilogram of cow meat, one would need 22,000 litres of water, whereas to produce 1 kilogram of insect protein, one would need only one litre.
The reason behind that is that insects have a short life cycle and produce valuable protein much quicker. They are also rich in Omega-3 and unsaturated fats. Entomophagy, the act of eating insects, is not wide-spread in Hungary, but she does not give up promoting the idea.
“Up until one to two years back, you could only buy such things in pet stores as fodder. For some time, you can order a few insect products online from Hungarian webshops.”
She also said that there are quite a few recipes on the internet, and there are a few “etnomochefs” out there who try and replicate existing foods with insects. She likes mealworms and locusts the most, but she also likes silkworm pupas and wax moth larvae. Mariann highlighted that usually, the first thing people try are the mealworms, locusts and crickets. She said that freeze-dried insects do not taste quite like fresh ones.
The easiest way to prepare them is to fry them in oil: locusts are delicious in tempura or other batter, mealworms and crickets can be ground to make flour, and after that, the possibilities are endless; you can even bake cricket muffins, cookies or cakes. Some can be boiled, and others glazed in a pan.
Mariann Szabó said that there are also a few things to consider. People allergic to shellfish are usually also allergic to insects as well. You might need to check with your doctor. You should not collect wild insects. Although you do not have to worry about zoonoses – carrying diseases from animals to humans – insect collected from the wild could have been in contact with harmful chemicals, waste or might have eaten from infected animal carcasses. And also because you might catch a poisonous insect. There is a list by the Wageningen University in the Netherlands that contain all edible insects; currently, around 2,100.
Mariann also highlights that it is important what the insect eat before you prepare them because you also eat the insects’ insides. You need to “purge” them and feed them with food that can empty harmful materials from their guts. Also, what they feed on can alter their taste.
“I give mealworms cinnamon apples, and they take on the taste of the cinnamon.”
She also kills the insects, so she does not cook them alive; it is messy and inhumane – she says. Putting them into the freezer for 24 hours will kill them.
When the interviewer asked whether there are any regular consumers of insects, she replied that usually no one eats insects on a regular basis yet, but there are more and more people like herself who try to incorporate insect into their dishes.
Mariann also added that most people who try it either keep animals that eat insects or people who work in pet stores, but she tries to promote the idea and organise tasting when possible.
After he created his funny and creative chocolate Santa wearing a mask for safety, pastry chef László Rimóczi came up with a new and equally adorable idea fitting pandemic times.
We already know that Hungarian chocolates, pralines and bonbons are incredibly delicious and officially recognised worldwide. Here is the newest novelty in the industry to make this spring sweeter and happier.
Rimóczi’s Santa creation was so successful that many times he had to start working at 3 am in the morning to finish all the orders that had been made.
His Santas even travelled all over the world in the media while he also received an award for innovation from the Association of Hungarian Confectionery Manufacturers.
The creative confectioner is getting ready for Easter with little
chocolate bunnies holding a medical injector,
the type with which we will all get inoculated against covid.
The bunnies come to life thanks to a bar of Italian milk chocolate and will be adorned by a marzipan flower right above the medical injector, also made of chocolate, of course – said the confectioner from Lajosmizse to the news programme of RTL.
So far, only a couple of pieces in different sizes were made from the dessert, from which the biggest version is heavier than 1kg. Unfortunately, we will not be able to order delivery of the sweet and cute bunny as the chocolate injector is too delicate to be delivered; it would not survive.
The objective of this funny and adorable idea is to bring some happiness and make customers smile in these trying times.
“The market and the industry of confectionery sweets both try to react in an innovative way to this tough situation” – said Rimóczi.
Due to the Black Vault database, 713 pdf files surfaced the internet on Monday about secret CIA data on UFO incidents collected in the past decades – including some related to Hungary.
The files contain material collecting words such as “UFO”, “alien”, “extra-terrestrial”. The documents, however, also include cases of someone mentioning these words as a joke.
Telex reported that a search for Hungary-related content within the files brings out
a “video report on ufo world congress in Budapest (30 sec).” Based on newspapers from the past, this was an event organised by a staff member of the Uránia Observatory and a businessman.
The files also include a Hungarian television news report from 19 January 1991. about “Unidentified Flying Object spotted in Kecskemét (1.15 min), with “Unidentified Flying Object” underlined.
There was indeed a bright flying object spotted in the sky above Kecskemét as well as other places of Hungary. The chairman of the Hungarian Defence Forces told the newspaper Kurír that “a UFO was seen in the airspace of Hungary on Friday, 10 minutes before midnight. It was seen from many places over the country. Officers on duty at the air force of Kecskemét have also seen the UFO moving with about 300 kilometres speed above the runway.” A staff member from the Observatory, on the other hand, told the newspaper it was most likely a meteor.
The files also include Hungarian writer István Nemere. Nemere in his book Gagarin, A Cormic Lie wrote that the Soviet Yuri Gagarin was not the first person who entered space, but they sent someone else, and it was all a hoax. The Soviet newspaper Komszomolszkaja Pravda reacted to the accusation, and that made it to the CIA files. Pravda said Nemere was one of those writers who wanted to earn money and fame on anti-Soviet views that appeared in formerly communist countries.
You may wonder, how did this get into the CIA reports? The reporter of Pravda wrote that disproving Gagarin, similarly to UFO phenomena, is just outdated sensationalism. The case was included in the files because of the word UFO.
Monday mornings are never easy, but this week, one Budapest commuter probably had it worse than any of us. He was on his way to work on Monday morning when the shocking rat incident happened. Hopefully, the government’s plans to modernise public transportation will include a better cleaning system.
András, a reader of Index took bus 108 E as he always does, but the commute did not go as smooth as he expected, Index reports.
András felt something crawling in his neck, so he brushed it off, thinking it was some kind of bug. However, he was mortified when he looked down and saw a rat running around on the seat right next to him.
After the initial shock, he started recording his travel companion on his phone, creating the video below.
Hopefully, the government’s plans to modernise the bus transportation in big cities will include an improved cleaning program as well as more environmentally-friendly vehicles.
Forbes reports that the Hungarian government wants every second bus to be environmentally friendly in all big Hungarian cities by 2030.
The Zöld Busz Demonstrációs Program (Green Bus Demonstration Program) has already finished in Debrecen and starts in October at Békéscsaba. With the help of this program, the government offers financial aid for the acquisition of electric buses. Bus manufacturers and distributors selling high-capacity direct current chargers of at least 100 or 150 kW are eligible to take part in the program.
Speaking of development and modernization, the upgrade of the middle section of metro line 3 starts on 7 November, hvg reports.
Metro line 3 skips the entire section from Nagyvárad tér to Lehel tér from 7 November 2020. Metroline M3 continues to operate between Kőbánya-Kispest and Nagyvárad tér and between Újpest-központ and Lehel tér. Replacement buses will be available between the section under construction. While replacement buses will be available every 45 seconds during rush hours on workdays, all passengers should expect longer travel times.
BKK recommends that only the passengers take the replacement bus M30 who wish to travel to the surrounding area of the two newly closed stations. For others, they highly suggest either changing to M1, M2, or M4, or getting on trams 4-6, 2, 47, or 49.
“The renovation will affect all traffic throughout Budapest and its agglomeration, causing inconvenience to many passengers over the next year and a half. While BKK and BKV will do their utmost to alleviate difficult traffic conditions, all commuters must be prepared for longer travel times. Those traveling by car ought to prepare for significant changes on Váci út, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út, Üllői út and Kiskörút.” – BKK stated.
A series of proposals from a Hungarian village’s Casanova ended in disaster last Saturday.
László Pádár is known as the village’s womaniser. Despite being married, he flirts and tries to hit on about every woman that he encounters. Although everyone is familiar with his ways, no one would have thought that he would propose to all the female members of a family in just one day, especially because the adult members already have families of their own. His attempts at asking the women’s hands in marriage ended disastrously, as the ladies beat him up quite badly, reported Blikk.
“Laci and I have been married for eighteen years, so I know about his lecherous nature,” László’s wife Veronika stated. “I would be rich if I had as many thousand bills as the times he promised to get better. He falls desperately in love every year; one time he worked in Mór, and he sold his company’s lawnmower so he could pay the prostitute. Other times he came home with a hickey on his neck, claiming several people held him down and a woman sat on his lap. My mother said, ‘you’re stupid, my daughter, if you don’t get a divorce.’ But we have four kids who love their father, and he won’t sign any paperwork.”
The scandal erupted when László visited Annamari (32) and her sister, Renáta (21), who lived a few blocks away, on Saturday. They were both mothers, and they were surprised when László showed up with a bottle of brandy uninvited.
“László drank all the pálinka at ours, then he violently insisted that I marry him. Of course, I kicked him out of the house,” Annamaria, who has five children and a partner, said, and added that László came back not even ten minutes later, but by that time he wanted to marry Renáta or their mother instead.
The family had to chase him away four times, yet László still returned. When he asked for the other two sisters and Renáta’s two-year-old girl is when Renáta had enough, she went outside and slapped him three times, so hard that he fell off his bike, then she knelt him in the forehead.
Later that evening, Annamari was biking by the pub when László started yelling obscene things at her. The mother of five was already fed up with him, and with this last bit of humiliation, she got off her bike and punched László in the nose so hard that he gave up on proposing to anyone. He called the police and reported a riot.
“Laci got home on Saturday night at 9, but I didn’t let him in the house. By then, I already knew he wanted to marry several women within a few hours, and I had had enough of it. The next morning, I went out into the yard, and he was lying in front of the gate with his face very badly beaten. Since then, he’s been wearing sunglasses so they can’t see his black eye. I’m not sorry, he didn’t learn from this either,” Veronika said laughing.
A Hungarian diving instructor and his Dutch companion were arrested in Bangkok due to a three-minute-long, innocent, self-made short film; as a result of which, the suspects might be relocated to one of Thailand’s most dreadful prisons.
The Hungarian-born Attila ran a diving club in Thailand that has been welcoming tourists to Ko Phangan – a fabulous island in the Gulf of Thailand – for two decades. Within the framework of his diving school, he made underwater photography and videos that later got him into trouble.
According to the diving instructor, one of his short films was copied from their YouTube channel by an unknown person and then sold to all TV companies.
However, Thai authorities immediately took action against the video creators because they were said to be engaging in illegal activities in a nature reserve, for which Attila was immediately arrested along with his business partner, Francesco Simonett.
the two men live in constant fear, waiting for their relocation from a local prison – that is considered friendly among Thai conditions – to the country’s most dreadful prison, IDC, where 80 people are crowded into one cell, including the most ruthless criminals.
“It is all about a three-minute, innocent self-made film. It is our sin to take photos with sea animals – sea cucumbers, starfish and sea urchins. We tried everything but in vain; they want to set an example with us” – commented desperately Attila, who also revealed that their trial will be held tomorrow, after which they will find out what will happen next.
“Salad Beach is a protected area, so it is forbidden to publish pictures and videos made here” – said Sophon Thongdee, CEO of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, adding that the state can sentence the perpetrators to a maximum fine of 100,000 bahts (~ EUR 2,700) or one-year imprisonment, or both. According to the news portal The Nation Thailand, the Hungarian-Dutch duo committed further sins, as they did not notify immigration officials that their address had changed, and employed another immigrant illegally, for which additional fine has been imposed on them.
The case is being monitored by the Embassy, who is in touch with the Hungarian suspect, for whom they are ready to provide all possible assistance.
It might be surprising that public baths had a completely different function in the Middle Ages than they have today. They provided space not only for relaxation but also for public sex and prostitution.
Doctors often made rules for bathing, mainly because they thought that the clear herbal water had a healing effect. In that age, people believed that it served as a treatment of infertility thanks to the healing power of the spring or thermal water. The assumption was not unfounded as during the pilgrimages, many women managed to become pregnant who used to have problems before.
In the Middle Ages, anyone who could afford it had a tub in his home, but the majority of people went to the rivers, lakes, or bathhouses. The latter, however, offered other services as well;
as a result of which, they became central places for public sex.
Public baths were initially created to give people the opportunity to relax in the pools, enjoy the warm water, but soon their role completely changed. At first kings and aristocrats went to the baths, but later such institutions were established for the more impoverished strata as well, where they could enter either for free or in exchange for some money.
The Hungarian author Dr László Józsa describes in his book Sex in Medieval Hungary that in the large pools of public baths, men, women and children relaxed completely naked or sometimes wearing small aprons. Furthermore, it was also possible to watch the others from the edge of the pool or the bridge built above. According to Femina, public baths quickly became the centre of social life and offered much more than bathing or relaxing that would be completely unacceptable today.
Initially, people went to such places to eat, drink, play cards and gossip, and as a result of nudity, more and more people chose bathhouses to satisfy their sexual desires.
In the Middle Ages, public baths meant sexual freedom, which was enjoyed not only by those with loose morals, but also by women who were considered “decent women”.
As these institutions gained popularity, more and more sexual services were provided to the guests, including masseurs and prostitutes. Public baths soon converted into brothels.
Authorities overlooked everything that was going on in the baths, but the Church vehemently opposed and fought against it. The popularity of bathhouses ended due to the rapidly spreading syphilis epidemic in the 16th century. Most of them were locked up as no one visited them, while the rest were no longer used for sexual purposes due to the fear of illness.
Recently two people have offended public peace by going to the streets naked. The picture in the post shows one man completely naked, casually running among the other runners on Margit-Sziget (Margaret Island). The eyewitness said he shouted that:
“I love myself! Thank you all!”
Origo found an eyewitness, who posted the incident to Facebook. The post says the following, commenting on the funny situation:
“For 20 years, I have been running on Margaret Island several times a week. I always love every moment of it, and every single time (!) it offers a wonderful experience – mainly natural wonders – that impresses me, that makes me wonder why I do not spend my whole day there ?! Well, nothing remotely similar has happened to me before. At first, I only heard the loud shout, “I love myself! Thank you all!”, which I thought, beyond the apparent foolishness, what a nice guy; he might be through a long process of being comfortable with himself, and he even thanks others. Then I saw Him. I think I can be grateful to fate again, that he approached from behind.”
And one of Ripost’s readers took pictures of another naked man walking down Margit körút (Margaret boulevard) and then doing jumping jacks on Margit híd (Margaret bridge) as well. According to the site, the traffic seemed to stop at the unusual sight, and the man was later arrested at Széna tér (Hay square) by the police.
Last December, the park had to escort its visitors out because a lion managed to get out from the restricted area. Even though she could not get out of the park of the bear home, the issue caused panic among visitors. Now, a video shows how she was wandering around in the park, and it seems that what happened was the director’s fault.
One of the caretakers, Richárd Vágó, told ripost.hu what he saw that day emphasising that they all panicked first. He said that he was near the lynxes when the director of the bear home, Bálint Kuli, asked him for help. Moments later, he heard a scared mother (let’s name her Anna) crying for help because while she was watching the lions peacefully with her kid, she realised that one of them was outside the fence.
Here is a video about how the lion was walking in the park and how she was finally caught:
Based on the park’s protocol, before opening, they let the lions walk outside the restricted area. However, it seems that last December somebody was not patient enough because two lions remained in their cages during that walking time.
As a result, they started to fight so the caretaker, and the director could not communicate probably because of the cacophony they caused. Anyway, Mr Kuli wanted to separate them, so he opened another cage but pushed the wrong button. As a result, the bear home’s biggest male lion went into the cage immediately attacking the two female lions – Mr Vágó said. Afterwards, the director pulled another lever, but that opened a door leading to the feeding corridor. And since the cleaners did not close the corridor’s other door leading outside,
one of the lions, Lili, could get out into a grove where the visitors were.
Lili immediately went to the goats and searched for livestock, causing panic among the caretakers and visitors of the bear home.
This is how angry the male lion, Leonardo, was that morning:
Anna (the mother mentioned above) said that she was taking a video of the lions when she noticed that one of them was not beyond the fence. Fortunately, the crew immediately ran for their help and escorted them to one of their offices. Finally, they got out of the park by car. Meanwhile, the big male lion, Leonardo, decided to go after Lili.
To avoid that, Mr Kuli shut the door of the feeding corridor only seconds away from being caught by the lion.
Meanwhile, the others tried to find Lili. Therefore, they brought her some meat and, finally, shot her with tranq darts. The bear home said then that the incident caused no personal injury or material damage.
The bear home has an excellent English website, so if you plan to visit it, you should click HERE to learn the details about how you can do that. HERE you may find one of our articles in which we introduce the bear farm with beautiful photos.
Police.hu reported that the two officers Benjámin Papp and Alexandra Berkes were stopped at Blaha Lujza Square at 7 pm in the city centre because a young woman needed help at the tram station. The woman was in pain and barely conscious.
It turned out that the woman was in pain because childbirth has started already.
The two police officers lay the woman down, put her bag under her head, and she suddenly started to give birth to her child. When the two officers removed her trousers and underwear, the baby’s head could be seen already, which meant that performing the childbirth at the tram station was inevitable.
Papp held the woman’s head while Berkes helped to push and grabbed the baby. Childbirth only took a few minutes, and the two police officers performed it on their own.
The ambulance arrived at Blaha Lujza Square shortly after the incident and took the mother and the child into the hospital. The baby, named Noel, was born with 2,444 grams and 47 centimetres. He and his mother are fine.
