On Saturday morning before 6 am, police received a report that the windows of several cars in the VIII district had been smashed.

According to RTL, the Budapest Police Headquarters received a report at around 5:57 a.m. on 24 December 2022 that the windows of several cars in Budapest’s VIII district, in Bérkocsis, Tolnai Lajos and Somogyi streets had been broken.

Police officers on the scene found that the windows of 36 cars had been damaged. In connection with the crime, the investigators from Józsefváros identified a 12 and a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl.

They were arrested by the Budapest police at around 15:00 on 24 December 2022 at Nyugati Square and brought to the District VIII Police Station. After questioning, they were released by the police. One of them said in her statement that they broke the windows of the cars as a joke.

The children also smashed the window of a bank. Initial estimates put the damage at around five million forints, which will probably have to be paid by the teenagers’ parents.
