Outdoor exhibition tour in the village, cooking and dining with the local families, making music with the women’s or children’s band – travelo.hu writes that Bódvalenke Fresco Village awaits visitors with extraordinary services from now on.
Bódvalenke is not your ordinary tourist destination. The 200 dwellers of the village in Borsod County have been trying to survive poverty for years. However, the Bódvalenke Fresco Village project that started seven years ago brought a big change to the life of the village. European Rom painters painted different scenes on the walls of the houses thus contributing to the first outdoor exhibition presenting the best of the Rom painting.
Despite the big touristic interest, the locals haven’t been able to profit from tourism as much as it would be enough for a breakthrough due to the lack of a well built touristic infrastructure. So from this year on, the main goal of the Bódvalenke Fresco Village project is the touristic development of the village and the utilization of their opportunities.
This means development programmes, like providing decent accommodation and alimentation for visitors. A new association will take care of the matters mentioned above and assumes responsibility for the increasing touristic numbers. The tourism trending towards Bódvalenke signifies an economic resource and breakthrough opportunity, which would help the locals in their everyday survival and their financial independence in the long run.
The village is a special experience for visitors since the majority of the guests can see the gypsy culture from close for the first time there. “When visiting a gypsy village you get in touch with the locals, get to know their culture and traditions, thus, you get a better understanding of their everyday lives” said Eszter Pásztor, the project leader of Bódvalenke Fresco Village.
The village awaits visitors with unique programmes instead of classic touristic ones, like outdoor exhibition tour, cooking and dining with the local families, making music with the women’s or children’s band, hiking and mushrooming in the neighbouring forest or the swamp.
