The secret of Hungary’s transcendent Tokaji wine – VIDEO

When it comes to Hungarian beverages, the wines of the Tokaj region belong to the world’s elite. The award-winning alcoholic drinks have always fascinated travellers visiting Hungary. Hence the Great Big Theory shot a short educational video introducing them.

Tokaj Aszú is one of the most special and unique Hungarian wines, which definitely belongs to the greatest sweet wines of the world. 2017 marked the 15^th anniversary of UNESCO awarding the Tokaj wine region with a World Heritage membership, in the category of cultural regions.

The Hungarian word for wine (‘bor’) is special in itself, because it is very different from how most nations call the magical drink.

The video features winemaker István Szepsy, who credits the layers of volcanic rock under the furmint grape vines for the wine’s balanced, minerally mouthfeel.

Similarly to yesterday’s video about paprika, this was also made in collaboration with the Hungarian Tourism Agency.
