The world’s best violin was made by a Hungarian

event music success

Szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu writes that Gábor Draskóczy was awarded by a “double” gold medal at an American competition: his violin was chosen best by two independent juries.

The Violin Society of America is one of the most prestigious international competitions for violin creators, where two independent juries evaluate the submitted works. The juries analyse both “the tone and the workmanship” of the instrument.

This time both juries decided to award the title of the best violin to the work of a London-based Hungarian, Gábor Draskóczy. His violin won the highest, gold certificate in both categories. Since only silver certificates were given in the competitions of violas, cellos, and contrabasses, his gold certificate seems to be even more significant.

[learn_more caption=”More info about Gábor Draskóczy”] Gábor Draskóczy was born in Budapest in 1976, and has been playing the violin since he was six. After finishing the secondary school, he studied violin-making at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, alongside Bence Holló, in the period of 1997-2004. Additionally, he became acquainted with the art of repairing instruments in the workshops of several instrument-makers. Ever since 2004, Draskóczy makes his instruments (modern and baroque violin, viola, and cello) in his own workshop. Currently, he lives and works in London.[/learn_more]

So far, in the history of the competition, only three times could the same instrument win both categories. In the case of violins, it was Jeff Philips who could achieve such a success in 2014.

The aim of the non-profit organization, established in 1973, is to support the art of creating and repairing these beautiful instruments.
