The world’s longest tram can be launched in Budapest in March

Budapest transport

Type authorisation of the long CAF trams has been issued by the National Transport Authority; furthermore, the first train has been granted approval for operation, as well. Thus the world’s longest tram can be launched in Budapest at the end of March. Further eight long CAF trams, already in Budapest, are waiting for this official authorisation, while the remaining three trains will be delivered to the capital in the upcoming months. Altogether twelve pieces of the new type of vehicles will run in Budapest along line 1, operated by BKV.

According to budapest.hu, the long CAF trams are considered to be world record. With their 55.9 meter length they are the longest trams with the highest capacity in the world: 345 people can travel with them at once. The interior design of the vehicles completely meets the needs of present days: vehicles are low-floored, air-conditioned, single unit with no hardly accessible seats in higher positions.

The shorter CAF trams, already introduced in the middle of September, are running along lines 3 and 17. Moreover, passengers can soon travel with them on lines 19 and 41, as well.
