There may be drugs in the flour: throw it out immediately if you bought it!
Bio Partner Kft. has recalled wholemeal flour of the Bauck Hof brand due to high levels of tropane alkaloid contamination (atropine, scopolamine), the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nemzeti Élelmiszerlánc-biztonsági Hivatal, Nébih) informed.
The product recalled concerns Bauck Hof brand organic teff flour, batch number 230767, 400 gram packs, with a best-before date of 9 January 2024.
Nébih asks customers not to use the product.
According to information available on their website:
‘tropane alkaloids are toxic secondary metabolites of plants belonging to the families Brassicaceae and Solanaceae (e.g. nightshade, belendek, snapdragon) and Erythroxylaceae (e.g. coca bush).
At higher levels, they can affect the central and autonomic nervous system, and cause dry mouth, dilated pupils, cardiac arrhythmias, and other neurological symptoms.
