Three suspects arrested for robbing migrants
Budapest, September 7 (MTI) – Three men have been taken into custody in Szeged, southeast Hungary, in connection with the theft of 2,000 euros from four Syrian migrants near the M5 motorway, local police said.
Spokeswoman Csilla Gyugyi said the suspects offered to transport the migrants from Roszke, on the southern border with Serbia, to Budapest for 250 euros per head.
The migrants accepted the offer and paid a deposit. The migrants were seated inside two cars which started driving on the motorway. But soon they stopped and the migrants were threatened at gunpoint. One of the Syrian men handed over 2,000 euros to the robbers who got away.
The local county police in cooperation with the counter-terrorist unit (TEK) were soon able to track them down, Gyugyi said.
