Two trams collided on Hűvösvölgyi Road in Budapest’s 2nd district on Tuesday, leaving two people with minor injuries and temporarily disrupting public transport in the area.
Tram collision in Budapest, again
According to Hungary’s disaster management authority, professional firefighters from the capital, assisted by volunteer firefighters from Rózsadomb, carried out technical rescue operations at the scene. Ambulance crews also attended the incident, and the two injured people were treated for minor injuries.
Tram services temporarily suspended
The collision affected tram services on two key routes. Following the accident, trams 56A and 61 were suspended between Budagyöngye and Hűvösvölgy, with replacement buses introduced to transport passengers. Travellers were also advised to use bus routes 29 and 129 while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
By around 7:15 PM, Budapest’s public transport operator, BKK, confirmed that both tram lines had resumed normal operations along their full routes after the affected section had been reopened.
Second tram collision in Budapest within days
The latest incident comes just days after another tram collision in the Hungarian capital. In the early hours of Sunday, two trams travelling to a depot collided near the Mester Street stop on Könyves Kálmán Boulevard in Budapest’s 9th district. In that accident, one of the tram drivers sustained minor injuries.
The two incidents in quick succession have drawn attention to tram safety, although authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of Tuesday’s collision.
