US charge d’affaires Palladino met with Karácsony, the left-wing mayor of Budapest

Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony posted on Facebook on Wednesday that Robert Palladino, the US charge d’affaires in Budapest, had paid an introductory visit to City Hall.

Karácsony said he had a “meaningful and pleasant conversation” with Palladino, discussing deepening the cooperation between the metropolitan council and the US embassy, particularly in cultural and economic areas.

“The relationship between Budapest, the nation’s capital, and the United States goes back centuries,” the mayor said, adding that the pursuit of freedom was a key part of both of their histories. He said Hungary-US relations were based on shared values and traditions and went beyond individuals and political parties.

The US chargé d’affaires has not yet commented on the meeting, but if he does, we will be sure to update this article.
