What is the best university in Hungary? – New ranking reveals!

Despite the country’s small size, Hungary’s education system has formed numerous bright minds over the course of history. The country’s universities provide high-quality education and many possibilities for their students, even for foreigners. Hvg now created a ranking of the Hungarian universities. Find out which one is the best.

Hvg used two main categories when determining the ranking of the greatest universities of Hungary. According to Index, the first one was the number of teachers and professors with high academic degrees working at the institution. The second criterion was the ratio of students with the best high school graduation results choosing a given institution.

Hvg also asked István Stumpf about the model change of universities in Hungary. In the past couple of years, the Hungarian government converted many universities into foundations.

The statesman responsible for the model change said that the fear of the model change has subsided. He thinks that the threat of autonomy is no longer a concern, and financing is higher than ever before.

According to Index, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) secured the first position in both the categories for instructors and for students.

Only seven institutions have sixty per cent of full-time instructor positions with a high number of academic degrees (ELTE, BME, SOTE, PPKE, Debrecen, Szeged).

However, it seems that Economics and Technology universities are exceptions to this rule as they often employ people who do not necessarily have high academic degrees but have substantial experience in their respective fields.

Compared to last year’s ranking, Eötvös Loránd University kept its leading position, with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics closely following. However, the University of Szeged took a big leap from fifth place to third this year.
