Wizz Air celebrates 1 million Debrecen passengers
Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, celebrates the significant milestone of its one millionth Debrecen passenger. The lucky customer arrived from Moscow with the newest WIZZ flight and was greeted upon arrival with a value voucher.
Since its first commercial flight in 2012, Wizz Air has constantly expanded its Debrecen network, which now consists of seven exciting routes. Connecting Hajdu-Bihar county on low fares with London Luton, Eindhoven, Paris Beauvais, Malmo, Milan Bergamo, Tel Aviv and Moscow, Wizz Air offers 327,000 seats on sale on its Debrecen routes in the first 10 months of 2018, 17% more than in the same period of the previous year.
While employing 35 local, customer-oriented employees at its Debrecen base, the airline’s operations also support over 200* indirect jobs on annual base in the region, stimulating aviation, transportation, hospitality and tourism industries.
At the press conference held on the occasion of the remarkable milestone, Wizz Air also announced that it extended its title sponsorship of the Debrecen Airport Run. After last year’s successful event, this announcement once again underlines Wizz Air’s long-standing commitment to mobilize people and promote active lifestyle. The airline is already title sponsor of seven running events in its base cities across Europe. The Wizz Air Budapest Half Marathon, the Wizz Air Kyiv City Marathon, the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon, the Wizz Air Cluj-Napoca Marathon, the Wizz Air Kosice Runway Run and the Wizz Air Skopje Marathon are also popular running events among both local professional and amateur runners as well as the visitors of the cities.
Gabor Vasarhelyi, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said:
“Following the second anniversary of our operating base and the commencement of the long-awaited Moscow route, we are delighted to celebrate another significant milestone in Debrecen. During over five years of successful operations we carried one million passengers on our Debrecen routes bringing opportunities through our ever-growing network to local customers, while our low fares also attracted a number of visitors to the region stimulating tourism and hospitality sectors. Today we are announcing Wizz Air’s extended title sponsorship of the popular Debrecen Airport Run as well, which once again underlines our commitment to the city and active lifestyle. We look forward to continuing our fruitful partnership with Debrecen Airport.”
