Just days after their grand opening, a set of newly installed water slides at one of Hungary’s most popular spa resorts has come under scrutiny after several visitors reportedly suffered injuries, with some incidents requiring ambulance assistance.
Several bathers injured after opening weekend
The new water slides at the Sárvár Spa and Wellness Centre in western Hungary were unveiled last weekend following an investment of approximately HUF 700 million (EUR 1.7 million). The attraction quickly drew large crowds as summer temperatures encouraged visitors to flock to the spa.
However, concerns emerged almost immediately after the opening. During a municipal council meeting in Sárvár on Wednesday, local officials confirmed that a number of bathers had been injured while using the slides. According to reports, ambulance services were called to assist some of those affected.
The incidents prompted the temporary closure of the slides while operators carried out additional safety checks and testing, as per ugytudjuk.hu.
Spa launches investigation following the water slide injuries
In a report submitted to the local council, the spa’s management acknowledged that some visitors had required medical attention after using the attraction. At the same time, the operator stressed that the water slides had been constructed in compliance with all applicable safety regulations and standards.
Following the accidents, the facility suspended operation of the slides for a short period before reopening them after conducting a series of tests. According to the spa, no further accidents have been recorded since Monday.
Management also noted that the attraction is currently operating in a testing phase, a period during which responsibility for any technical issues typically remains with the contractor.

Weight limit reduced as precaution
The spa has now launched a formal investigation involving both the Turkish manufacturer of the water slides and the construction company responsible for the installation.
As an additional safety measure, operators have introduced stricter usage rules. The maximum combined weight permitted on the slides has been reduced from 200 kilograms to 150 kilograms while the investigation continues.
Despite the incidents, the slides remain open to the public. Spa officials say the ongoing review will help determine whether any further modifications or operational changes are required to ensure visitor safety.
The case has attracted significant local attention, particularly given the scale of the investment and the fact that the attraction had been open for only a matter of days before the first reports of injuries emerged.
