Mayor Karácsony: Budapest must get its money back from govt

Budapest must get its money back from the government, Gergely Karácsony, the city’s mayor, said on Facebook on Tuesday, calling for “an end to anti-Budapest policy”.

Karácsony said the capital’s Liquidity Working Group held a meeting on Monday to review and prioritise the metropolitan council’s bills. He said he has informed the employees at transport company BKV and retirement homes of the situation regarding the city’s finances, adding that he would be meeting workers at Budapest-run companies throughout the week. The mayor noted that he has also initiated consultations with the city assembly groups so that they can “decide whether they want to be a part of the problem or the solution”.
