Annual human rights forum begins in Budapest
The protection of religious minorities, sustainable development and human rights, and the right to education are in focus at the annual human rights forum that began in Budapest on Tuesday.
There are increasingly complex security challenges posed by illegal migration, terrorism, extremism and a disregard for minority rights globally which all have a human rights aspect, the Hungarian foreign ministry’s state secretary in charge of security policy said at the opening.
The government has a complex approach towards human rights by considering them in the context of security issues, Péter Sztáray said.
This year’s forum, organised for the 11th time, aims to facilitate a dialogue representatives of governments and international organisations, he added.
The event marks the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Sztáray noted, stating Hungary’s firm commitment to its provisions.
