The Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre (ASCC) of the Embassy of India in Budapest celebrated International Dance Day on 5 May 2026 with great enthusiasm, bringing together artists, cultural enthusiasts, and members of the diplomatic and local communities for an evening dedicated to the universal language of dance.

The event was inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Anshuman Gaur, Ambassador of India to Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina, who addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of dance as a powerful medium that transcends borders and connects cultures across the world.

The celebration showcased a rich and diverse lineup of performances representing classical Indian dance traditions, cultural fusion, and international folk expressions. The audience was treated to captivating performances in Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, and innovative fusion presentations blending Bharatanatyam with Flamenco, as well as a multi-style classical dance tribute to the divine feminine.

The programme also featured an energetic Hungarian folk dance by the Budapest-based Pannonica Táncműhely Group, vibrant Tamil folk performances by members of the Indian community, and a lively Bhangra-inspired Bollywood dance performance that concluded the evening on a festive note.

The performances reflected the spirit of International Dance Day by celebrating artistic expression, cultural dialogue, and the shared human experience through rhythm and movement. The event received an enthusiastic response from the audience, who appreciated the diversity and artistic excellence displayed throughout the evening.
