Hungary is set for a changeable start to September, with a cold front bringing strong winds and scattered showers and thunderstorms on Saturday.
According to the latest forecast from HungaroMet, temperatures will drop by a few degrees behind the front, but the country will largely retain its summer-like warmth. Sunny and mostly dry weather is expected to return on Sunday.
Friday: Warm with plenty of sunshine
Friday will remain largely sunny across Hungary, although cloud cover will temporarily increase in the east and northeast. No significant rainfall is expected, although light drizzle cannot be ruled out in a few places.
Westerly winds will pick up, with some stronger gusts possible. Temperatures will reach 27–33°C during the warmest part of the day.

Saturday: Cold front brings strong winds
Saturday will begin with plenty of sunshine, but cloud cover will increase considerably from the north during the day as a cold front moves across the country. Scattered rain and showers may develop, with isolated thunderstorms also possible, particularly in northern parts of Hungary. Most areas, however, are expected to remain dry.
The wind will undergo a noticeable change, shifting from southwesterly to northerly and northwesterly. It will strengthen across large parts of the country, with strong and locally gale-force gusts possible.
Despite the approaching front, temperatures will remain high. Morning lows will generally range between 15 and 20°C, while afternoon highs will mostly reach 26–32°C. It could be a few degrees warmer in southeastern Hungary.

Sunday: Sunshine returns
By Sunday, the weather will settle down again. Mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies are expected, with no significant rainfall forecast anywhere in the country. Northwesterly and northerly winds will remain noticeable, occasionally becoming strong.
Temperatures will fall further overnight, with lows generally between 10 and 18°C. In sheltered locations, temperatures could dip slightly below 10°C. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach 24–29°C, bringing a somewhat cooler but still pleasantly warm end to the weekend.
