Police have arrested a 47-year-old woman after an elderly woman was found dead in an apartment in Budapest’s 4th district on Tuesday afternoon. Investigators suspect homicide, and the suspect was apprehended in the same residential building shortly after officers arrived at the scene.
The Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) received a report at around 3:30 PM on 3 November that an elderly woman had been found dead in a flat in a residential building in Újpest, in northern Budapest.
Officers were immediately dispatched to the address to examine the scene. During their investigation, they found indications that the woman’s death may have been caused by another person, rather than natural circumstances.
The case was subsequently taken over by the BRFK’s Life Protection Department, which launched a criminal investigation on suspicion of homicide.
Suspect arrested in the same building
According to the police, investigators quickly gathered information that led them to a 47-year-old woman. She was arrested inside the same residential building and is suspected of being responsible for the crime.
The authorities said that the woman was being questioned in connection with the case. However, they have not released further details about her relationship with the victim or the circumstances surrounding the elderly woman’s death.
The police have also not disclosed the victim’s identity, her exact age or what may have led to the suspected killing.
The investigation is ongoing, and the 47-year-old woman is currently considered a suspect rather than a convicted perpetrator. Further details may emerge as investigators establish exactly what happened inside the Újpest apartment.
