Zaragoza could soon be added to Budapest Airport’s European route map, after the Aragón regional government and Zaragoza City Council announced a tender covering 31 potential air routes.
New air connection could link Budapest Airport with Aragón
The scheme could connect the airport serving the capital of Aragón with 15 countries, creating new international links while strengthening existing connections. The tender includes 29 cities in total, seven of them domestic destinations. Among the international routes included in the programme are Budapest, Prague, Bratislava, Warsaw and Kraków.
If the Budapest route goes ahead, Zaragoza would become a new Spanish destination available to travellers from the Hungarian capital. According to the information published about the tender, Zaragoza is currently a significant but unserved potential Spanish destination on Budapest Airport’s European network, reports Budflyer.

A historic Spanish city between Madrid and Barcelona
Zaragoza is the capital of Aragón and Spain’s fifth-largest city. Situated on the banks of the Ebro River, it has a history spanning more than 2,000 years, with Roman, Muslim, Jewish and Christian influences all leaving their mark on the city.
One of Zaragoza’s best-known landmarks is the enormous Baroque Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. Other major attractions include La Seo Cathedral, associated with the UNESCO-listed Mudéjar architecture of Aragón, and the Aljafería Palace, a former Moorish palace.
A beautiful city that is somehow still overlooked by some
The city’s location between Madrid and Barcelona has also made it an important transport and economic centre. At the same time, Zaragoza remains less familiar to international tourists than Spain’s best-known major cities. For Hungarian travellers, the city could offer a different side of Spain, with its historic centre, riverside setting, Roman remains and El Tubo district, known for its many tapas bars, writes 24.hu.
The proposed route is part of a wider tender process, meaning a Budapest–Zaragoza flight has not yet been confirmed. However, the inclusion of the Hungarian capital in the plans could open the way for a new direct connection between Budapest and one of Spain’s major inland cities.
