Fidesz is in favour of the construction of the Paks 2 nuclear power plant by Russia

Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch has slammed Socialist Party MEP István Ujhelyi for “having lied” that Fidesz would vote against a European Parliament resolution on the war in Ukraine, when the party had backed the motion.

He said Ujhelyi had lied about Fidesz having voted in favour of scrapping the upgrade of Hungary’ Paks nuclear plant, when the party’s MEPs had actually opposed it.

Deutsch said

Fidesz had opposed all parts of the resolution that would threaten Hungary’s energy supply.

As we wrote yesterday, work on the upgrade of Hungary’s Paks nuclear power plant is “proceeding according to plan”, the local unit of Russia’s Rosatom, the general contractor for the project, details HERE.

Ujhelyi told a press conference earlier that Fidesz’s MEPs had voted in favour of imposing sanctions on the International Investment Bank (IIB), Russian residency bond holders and ending cooperation with Russia’s Rosatom, the general contractor for the upgrade of Hungary’s Paks nuclear plant.
