Budapest offers year-round entertainment in the form of festivals, cultural events, concerts, exhibitions, fairs, sporting events, and national celebrations. There is a festival for everything in Budapest and so there is one for Goose Liver.
Did you know that goose liver belongs to the cultural and gastronomical heritage of Hungary? A cook book written by Anna Bornemissza in the 1500s contains a recipe for roast goose liver. This written memory is one of the evidences proving the 400 years´ tradition of goose fattening in Hungary. Goose Liver is very popular in Hungary and the country is known world wide, together with France and its Foie Gras, for the excellent liver. That is already a reason to set up a 3 day festival with many exhibitors and producers, the 6th edition of this festival will take place on September 5-7, at Budapest’s Elizabeth Square (Erzsébet tér).
This specialty food festival celebrates the Hungarian delicacy, the goose liver, but you can try and buy various gourmet foods and drinks as well as other Hungarian specialties. The festival is not only a food festival, or gourmet food fair, but also features many entertainment facilities. All weekend Elizabeth Square will be filled with live concerts, dance performances, traditional games and special programs for children. Visitors will have the possibility to taste and buy hungarian specialties (e.g. jams, wines, palinkas) that pair well with goose liver, as well as the products of the Handmade Hungarian Tastes.
