Győri ETO have qualified for the Elite Round of the 2015/16 UEFA Futsal Cup after overcoming a setback in their first match against Belarus’ Lidselmash to win their two subsequent fixtures against Nacional Zagreb and Baku United of London and secure second spot in the four-team First Round group.
Last Friday Győr surprisingly started with a narrow 4-3 loss at the hands of the unheralded Belarussians but hit back on Sunday with an even more tense 5-4 win over Nacional. A comfortable 5-1 victory over Baku United who actually come from London, England saw the Hungarian champions safely through to the Elite Round together with group winners Lidselmash. Nacional finished third and Baku United finished pointless in fourth spot.
Jordi Illa Solé, Győri ETO head coach:
My players gave everything to achieve the victory and please the crowd so they deserve every compliment. Before the tournament we analysed the teams and largely we ot what we expected. The Belarussian team Lidselmash were the group’s best and against them we weren’t successful but we’ve finished in a respectable position. It was a difficult task against the Croatian champions but we were successful in earning the three points so that then what we needed was a victory against Baku United. I feel that our performance was a good advert for Hungarian futsal.
