House speaker unveils monument to 18th century archbishop in Romania
House Speaker László Kövér unveiled a monument to archbishop István Ákontz-Kövér (1740-1823), an outstanding figure of Hungarian-Armenian culture and science, in Romania‘s Gheorgheni (Gyergyószentmiklós) on Sunday.
“The greater the threats of future the stronger we must hold on our past, traditions, and faith,” Kövér said in his address at the ceremony.
He added that “all Europe’s nations holding onto life with Christian roots” are jeopardised in the 21st century. But, he said, “faithfulness will always defeat disloyalty, truth will be victorious over falsity, faith over faithlessness and belonging to a community over rootlessness”.
