Anikó Nagy is stepping down as the state secretary for health care, she told MTI on Tuesday, confirming earlier press reports.
“I’ve handed my resignation to the prime minister and the president effective October 12,” Nagy said.
Explaining her decision to resign, Nagy said she intends to continue on as a pediatrician and use her experience to assist the government in its efforts to improve Hungary’s demographic situation.
The state secretary said she plans to return as director-general to the Heim Pál National Pediatric Institute.
Nagy said she was proud of the work the state secretariat had accomplished over the past four months.
She said she was confident that the “serious work” that had been carried out would advance Hungary’s health care.
She said she believed Hungary could make “serious progress” in reducing the burden on the health-care sector and improving public health if the government succeeds in implementing its five national public health schemes.
