Hungary to excel in gin, whisky and rum production?

If you think of Hungarian alcoholic beverages, the first thing that comes to your mind is probably pálinka or unicum, not whisky or rum. But the Agárd Pálinka Distillery recently came out with a surprising line featuring the drinks mentioned.

According to turizmus.com, the company known for its outstanding pálinka selection presented its new distillates at the Downtown Market last week. The new line-up includes dry gin, mellow rum and single malt whisky. They also offered some pálinka on the side, but the protagonists were the three novelties.

They were even served in the form of cocktails – a killer daiquiri along with highball and happy trip.

“The biggest challenge was the finding of high-quality ingredients and the development of the necessary techniques. The main ingredient of rum, molasses, came from South America, while the whisky’s sweetish composition can be owed to the carefully selected smoked and unsmoked malt. The gin consists of 17 herbs, the harmony of Hungarian camomile and dried fruits compliment the citrusy aroma” said Tibor Vértes, the owner of the distillery.

“We are an innovative company and we are proud to have shown again that nothing is impossible. You just need to stick to good quality and expertise. I can guarantee that our new products could compete in the international field as well” added the owner.
