Miskolctapolca’s Cave Bath, one of Hungary’s most striking thermal attractions, is set to reopen its doors on August 20, marking the end of a nearly two-year closure following a devastating fire. The city is pulling out all the stops for the occasion, with a packed programme of events planned across Miskolc for the long holiday weekend.
A troubled return
The bath suffered severe fire damage on September 6, 2024, when flames broke out in the aqua therapy section before spreading to other parts of the complex. While the outdoor pools escaped relatively lightly and were brought back into use the following summer, the cave section itself required extensive reconstruction, with work beginning in late 2025. From August 20, visitors will once again be able to bathe in the thermal pools hewn into the natural cave passages, though the medical and therapeutic facilities will remain closed for the time being.
