Prime Minister Péter Magyar says Hungary will continue granting temporary protection to men of military service age fleeing the Russia-Ukraine war, despite a recent EU decision to end such protection.

Hungary will continue to grant temporary protection to men of conscription age fleeing the Russia-Ukraine war, Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced on Thursday in Budapest.
Speaking at a government press conference, Magyar recalled that the European Union recently decided – with Hungary voting against the measure – that men of military service age fleeing the war should no longer be eligible for temporary protection.
However, the Hungarian government decided on Wednesday that Hungary would continue to reserve the right to grant temporary protection to such people arriving in the country.
Magyar said the decision was particularly important given that an increasing number of people in this category are arriving from Transcarpathia, where Hungary’s ethnic Hungarian community is concentrated.
“Hungary will act differently and provide assistance to those who need it,” Magyar said.

Magyar calls EU decision ‘unacceptable’
The Hungarian prime minister said he had raised the issue with several EU leaders and also discussed it with European Council President António Costa on Wednesday. Magyar described the EU decision as both “unworthy and unacceptable”, arguing that it effectively leaves men fleeing the war with no alternative but to remain in a country at war.
Hungary therefore intends to maintain its own approach and continue providing protection to eligible men of conscription age who flee Ukraine.

The decision could particularly affect Transcarpathian Hungarians
The Hungarian government has repeatedly highlighted the situation of the ethnic Hungarian community in Transcarpathia, in western Ukraine, during discussions over the war and Ukraine’s relationship with the EU.
According to Magyar, the decision to maintain Hungary’s ability to grant temporary protection is partly intended to ensure that Transcarpathian Hungarians fleeing the conflict can continue to receive assistance and protection in Hungary.
The move comes during disagreements between Budapest and Brussels over migration, Ukraine and the future of the EU’s approach to the war. For now, Hungary has made clear that it will not automatically follow the latest EU approach when it comes to men of conscription age fleeing the conflict.

The E.Yuck says that young Ukrainian men fleeing Ukraine are ineligible for asylum. Meanwhile, that same E.Yuck allows literally MILLIONS of young men from the world’s grossest s…holes to pour into Europe, raping, robbing, stabbing, running over, and leeching off us.
Why? Because the E.Yuck wants the Russia-Ukraine war to continue while the European men get gradually replaced.

Here’s an idea: Send the “New Europeans” to fight for and die for Ukraine. How about that? And if they come back alive, give them legal residence! (Otherwise, summarily deport them, just like Hungary is doing.)

Russia is the only country that wants the war to continue. The country has proven this countless times, and even the biggest fool should realize it—provided he has a lucid moment.
No country under attack relies on a volunteer army. The idea is ludicrous. Every country under attack institutes conscription. Anyone inside Ukraine evading the call to duty is rightly subject to government punishment. Countries outside Ukraine have to give very careful thought about assisting individuals to evade their legal reponsibilities in Ukraine and anywhere else. The three posters above are all promoters of the Russian mafia regime that has launched a war of aggression against a country that seeks to preserve its independence and freedom.
I suppose one could consider the Prime Minister’s decision compassionate; even though his position might be quite different if Hungary were invaded. What I don’t understand is how this relates to men who are eligible for conscription among the Hungarian ethnics in the Transcarpathian area. They make up a small percentage of the total draft age men in Ukraine. I guess what the PM is saying is that in order to protect the few thousand Hungarian ethnics, or rather speakers, who might come to Hungary to avoid being conscripted, Hungary will offer the same protection to Ukraine’s other 2 million conscription age men. Sorry, but I can’t help but wonder about the wisdom in that approach to a neighboring country’s problem.
I just hope word doesn’t get around and cause everyone to flock to Hungary when they face the threat of deportation to Ukraine from other European countries. That would be a massive own goal for Magyar. The numbers would run into the millions. A clarification is absolutely necessary here!
