Municipal Court rules in case of Budapest’s misconduct not electing a deputy mayor

The Municipal Court established in a non-binding ruling on Tuesday the Budapest municipality’s fault in not having elected a deputy mayor.
In a statement, the court noted that a lawsuit had been launched by the government office of Budapest against the municipal government.
The court has established that the municipal government “has failed to execute its legal duty to elect from among its members at least one councillor as deputy mayor”.
It said in a statement that the defendant had not challenged either its legal obligation or the fact of miscounduct, but referred to procedural circumstances. It questioned the court’s authority in the case and insisted that the lawsuit should have been initiated against the Budapest general assembly.
The court deemed those arguments unfounded. The ruling can be appealed within 15 days, it said.
