The Kuwaiti low-cost carrier Jazeera Airways has cancelled its scheduled Kuwait City–Budapest flight on Thursday, marking a setback for the airline’s planned return to the Hungarian capital.

According to Budapest Airport’s live flight information, the service, which was due to be the airline’s first resumed flight to Budapest, has been removed from the schedule.

Rising regional tensions affect air travel

Aviation news outlet Budflyer reported that the cancellation came after renewed military escalation between the United States and Iran, which saw overnight missile and drone attacks targeting Kuwait and several other countries in the region.

The reported attacks follow several days of increasing hostilities between Washington and Tehran, which have been raising security concerns across Middle Eastern airspace. Although Jazeera Airways has not publicly explained the cancellation, the timing coincides with the newest escalation in the conflict.

Flights increasingly affected

Airlines operating in the Middle East have repeatedly adjusted schedules, cancelled flights or rerouted aircraft in recent months as regional security conditions have deteriorated. The cancellation highlights how rapidly geopolitical events can affect international aviation, with airlines often forced to make last-minute operational decisions when airspace or security risks change.

Passengers due to travel on the affected service are advised to check directly with Jazeera Airways for the latest information regarding rebooking or refunds.

What this means for travellers from Hungary

The cancellation will most definitely affect passengers who had planned to travel on Jazeera Airways’ long-awaited return service between Kuwait and Budapest, as well as those with onward connections to destinations across the Gulf, the Middle East, and South Asia. Travellers booked on the affected flight should monitor their email and the airline’s official channels for updates regarding rebooking options or refunds. Given the rapidly changing security situation in the region, more schedule changes or disruptions cannot be ruled out if tensions between the United States and Iran continue to rise.

Tightened safety advisory

The hostilities have also prompted action from European aviation authorities. On Tuesday, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) reinstated and tightened its safety advisory for airlines operating in the Middle East, urging them to avoid the airspace of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, as well as flights over the Gulf of Oman, due to the renewed US-Iran conflict.

According to Budflyer, just over a week ago, EASA had withdrawn a similar warning after regional tensions briefly eased following a temporary ceasefire between Tehran and Washington. The latest advisory also urges airlines to exercise extreme caution when operating in the airspace of Israel, Jordan, Oman and Saudi Arabia. The warning is currently in force until 29 July.
