Opposition wants to restrict the Hungarian President’s pardoning powers
The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) will initiate restricting the president’s powers to grant pardon from the time of announcing the elections to ninety days after the elections, party lawmaker Gyula Molnár said on Saturday.
One of the most important tasks of the next government will be calling to account people linked to the Orbán government and the pardoning rights of the president will play an important role in this, Molnár told a press conference streamed on Facebook.
The party’s proposal aims to prevent the ruling “Fidesz-appointed” president from offering pardon during the transitional period to “thief Fidesz politicians, their family members and oligarchs,” he added.
