Charles, Prince of Wales celebrated his 70th birthday on 14th November. Buckingham Palace organised a huge celebration for His Royal Highness, where a Hungarian band called Szalonna és bandája performed and celebrated together with the British Royal Family.

According to hvg.hu, this is the fourth time that István Pál’s band, who is a famous Ferenc Liszt Award-winner Hungarian folk musician, played for the Royal Family. Ten years ago they also played at His Royal Highness’ 60th birthday celebration. István Pál states the Royal Family enjoys Hungarian folk music and always insists on having Hungarian tunes at their celebrations.

He also remembered that when they played for Margaret Thatcher, she said their music was like the whole Hungarian nation, full of emotions and full of heart.

The band consists of the members of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble and plays Hungary’s most beautiful folk music.

They have played at Hungary’s most significant music festivals, eg. Sziget Festival, but they also performed already in Venezuela, India, Greece, England, Mexico, and the United States.

In 2006 the United Kingdom commemorated the 50th jubilee of 23rd October 1956 where István Pál’s band was a special performer among the Academy Award-winner Jeremy Irons, pianist Tamás Vásáry and Grammy Award-winner Hungarian folk singer Márta Sebestyén.

Their latest studio album entitled as Mindenek szerelme was released this summer.
