Revolut users in Hungary can now receive their salaries directly into their Revolut accounts following the official launch of the fintech giant’s Hungarian branch.
According to a notification sent to customers, the Lithuanian neobank has introduced local Hungarian bank accounts and Hungarian IBANs, which is a significant step in the company’s expansion in the country. The change means that users can now use their Revolut accounts much like a traditional Hungarian bank account, making everyday banking considerably easier.
What changes for Hungarian users?
According to 444.hu, the new local banking infrastructure allows customers to:
- receive their salaries directly into their Revolut accounts;
- make domestic bank transfers;
- pay utility bills through bank transfers;
- set up direct debit payments;
- benefit from higher fee-free cash withdrawal limits (although third-party ATM operators may still charge their own fees);
- make instant HUF transfers.
The neobank also said that additional services, including Hungary’s QVIK instant payment solution and Payment Request functionality, will become available soon. The development is expected to strengthen the Lithuanian bank’s position in Hungary, where the app has become increasingly popular among consumers seeking lower banking costs and flexible foreign exchange services.
New transfer fees already in force
At the same time, the neobank reminded users that revised transfer fees reflecting local Hungarian banking costs are now in effect. A 0.45% fee applies to the portion of transfers exceeding HUF 50,000 (EUR 142), with a maximum charge of HUF 20,000 (EUR 57) per transaction.
However, transfers between Revolut users remain free of charge.
Recent boost for free cash withdrawals
The latest announcement follows another positive development for Hungarian Revolut customers reported earlier this week. As Daily News Hungary recently wrote, users in Hungary gained access to improved fee-free cash withdrawal conditions after the company introduced local banking services.
The changes brought the Lithuanian neobank closer to the services traditionally offered by domestic banks and removed several limitations that had previously affected Hungarian customers. With local IBANs, salary payments and instant domestic transfers now available, Revolut is taking another major step towards becoming a full-scale banking alternative for users in Hungary.
