A luxury property linked to the family of the outgoing Foreign Minister has appeared on the real estate market: the expansive residence is being offered for more than half a billion forints by Sarolta Szijjártó and her husband, Tamás Őry.
Luxury, millions, and the background of the Szijjártó house
The 350-square-metre property, located in Szár in Fejér County, sits on a plot of more than 1,500 square metres and is currently listed at HUF 449 million. The house is owned by Sarolta Szijjártó, the sister of the outgoing Foreign Minister, and is jointly held with her husband, Tamás Őry. The listing can be viewed here.
The property is notable not only for its size and price, but also because the owners’ business activities have been linked to significant state support in recent years. The couple each hold a 25% stake in TRP Hungary Kft., a company active in Hungary’s car and motorsport sector.
Public funds and sponsorship
According to Kontroll.hu, Szerencsejáték Zrt. has been supporting the company regularly since 2018, providing between HUF 20–30 million annually. In January 2026 alone, a transfer of HUF 30 million was made to the company. Altogether, around HUF 236 million in public funds has been channelled to the business over the past nine years in the form of sponsorship.
In addition, the company previously received a substantial amount of public money for preparing a study related to a racetrack: reports indicate that it was paid as much as HUF 1 million per page.
Three Hours with Telex
The outgoing foreign minister gave an interview this week to Telex, covering everything from the election defeat to Russian ties and the enrichment of Fidesz-linked oligarch Lőrinc Mészáros.
On the subject of Fidesz’s media campaigns and the role of Antal Rogán, Szijjártó said he does not watch television or consume online media, following only sports content. On Lőrinc Mészáros’s accumulation of wealth, he said that Mészáros himself should be asked about it. Remarkably, he also claimed to have no knowledge of his own wife’s financial position – apparently unaware that she had become a billionaire during the years of Fidesz governance.
Questionable Wealth
This is particularly striking given that his wife, Szilvia Szijjártó-Nagy, owns Interior Design Kft., a company that has generated 1.6 billion forints in profit since 2019 – operating from what appears to be a warehouse in Budapest’s fourth district, with no public website or phone number, as reported by 444.
The company leased a Porsche Cayenne just nine months after its founding and closed its first full financial year with a profit of 300 million forints. Szijjártó himself had purchased properties worth hundreds of millions of forints by the age of 36 – at the time attributing this to gifts from his father-in-law, loans from his parents, and personal savings.
It is also worth noting that by his own admission, he always pays for luxury goods in cash. In 2020, the family holidayed on the luxury yacht of László Szíjj, one of Hungary’s wealthiest businessmen, off the Adriatic coast – while the foreign minister gave the impression he was working from his office.
Taken together, the cash payments, the rapid enrichment of his wife’s obscure company, and the properties acquired at a remarkably young age paint a picture that raises serious questions about the origins of the Szijjártó family’s wealth and assets.

People get into politics because they like power and money.
Nationality and race do not change these fundamentals about human personalities.
Can you point to one British Prime Minister, minister or mere MP that got rich while in office? Sure, some arrived in position already well off from earlier employment or business activities but this is a minority and their wealth didn’t increase beyond whatever they saved from their parliamentary salary and the housing benefits that go with their office. It’s well known that former Prime Ministers can earn a lot of money from going on the speaking circuit and publishing the memoirs but this is perk of having held the position to begin with. Naturally, you become extremely employable once your term expires having held the most powerful job in the land which is an incentive to run for office to begin with because you sure as heck ain’t going to wealthy solely from your official salary. Thatcher and Blair continued to lead modest albeit comfortable lives after leaving No.10, even the opportunist Boris Johnson who had a questionable relationship with the truth drives a family people carrier covered in dents and worth about £500. I suspect one could say similar things about Carter, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton and Obama, none of whom were known for their lavish lifestyles.

But where did the Obamas get the money for the purchase? Even after eight years in the White House (2009 to 2017), the presidential salary alone wouldn’t have been enough: The head of the Oval Office in the US receives “only” an annual salary of $400,000.
According to US media reports, however, the couple received a $60 million advance from a publisher for a two-book contract. This was legal, as Michelle Obama has already sold millions of copies of her memoir, “Becoming.” Barack Obama’s memoir is still pending. He does, however, earn additional income through speaking engagements.
