The gunman targeted an enemy of his from a taxi but destroyed the windows of a fast-food restaurant in Budapest’s 7th district. Police officers managed to catch and identify him. Finally, they took the suspected perpetrator into custody today.
According to police.hu, the attack happened on August 7 before 2 AM. An unknown person called the police from a fast-food restaurant in Elizabethtown, the 7th district of Budapest. The phone witness reported a man gunned down the restaurant and destroyed one of its windows. He also added that the shots were probably fired from a rubber bullet gun.
Thankfully, nobody got injured, but the local police headquarter started an investigation for an armed altercation.
During the investigation, the officers discovered that the perpetrator targeted some young people standing in front of the restaurant. They escaped when the attack started, and officers searched for them as witnesses. They managed to identify them by 17 August.
They said the perpetrator was jealous of one of them. Therefore, he even got out of the taxi and chased them until they reached a nearby underpass. During that, he fired one more shot targeting them. He hit the back of one of them, causing light injuries.
The officers went to the perpetrator’s permanent address in the 8th district that day but could not find him there. However, they reached him via phone. As a result, the man surrendered to the police on 18 August.
Rudolf S. is 29 years old, and the police charge him with the armed altercation, misdemeanour assault and vandalism. They took him into custody and initiated his pre-trial detention. The suspect made a guilty plea.
