In June, the gross average earnings of full-time employees stood at 754,700 forints, while net average earnings reached 529,700 forints. Gross average earnings rose by 7.1 per cent, net average earnings by 9.4 per cent and real earnings by 7.6 per cent compared with the same month a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Thursday. However, the median salary was much lower.
Median salary shows reality
Gross median earnings reached 617,900 forints, while net median earnings stood at 438,000 forints (EUR 1201) – increases of 8.8 per cent and 10.9 per cent respectively since June last year. Compared with May, gross earnings fell by 9,339 forints and net earnings by 6,137 forints.
The KSH noted that the rise in net average earnings outpaced the increase in gross average earnings partly because of the expansion of the family tax allowance and tax concessions available to mothers.
Regular gross average earnings, excluding bonuses, rewards and one-month special payments, stood at 708,600 forints, up 7.9 per cent on the same period a year earlier. Regular gross average earnings were 700,800 forints in the business sector, 717,600 forints in the public budget sector and 757,600 forints in the non-profit sector, representing annual increases of 7.5 per cent, 9.0 per cent and 8.3 per cent respectively.
Gross average may be tempting
In June, gross average earnings stood at 788,000 forints in manufacturing, 613,000 in construction and 589,000 in agriculture. Monthly gross earnings reached 1.204 million forints in telecommunications and information technology, and 1.181 million in the financial and insurance sector.
During the first half of the year, gross average earnings rose by 11.5 per cent year on year to 772,800 forints, while net average earnings increased by 13.7 per cent to 541,200 forints.
