Zelensky: I’m willing to work with any Hungarian leader who isn’t Putin’s ally

Change language:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed readiness to cooperate with any Hungarian government willing to engage constructively, provided it is not aligned with Russian President Vladimir Putin. His comments come amid concerns over Russian influence in Hungary and increasing anti-Ukrainian rhetoric domestically.

Ukraine shares expertise against Iranian-origin drone threats

Speaking to foreign journalists, Zelensky outlined Ukraine’s deployment of expert teams to the Middle East to help countries defend against Iranian-origin kamikaze drones, 24.hu writes. The three teams, each comprising dozens of specialists, have visited Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and reportedly a U.S. military base in Jordan.

“Ukraine is not at war with Iran,” Zelensky emphasised, noting that the programme is purely defensive, aiming to evaluate and demonstrate effective measures against Shahid drones. In exchange for their assistance, Ukraine expects financial support and technological cooperation.

Ukraine has been defending its own skies from daily Russian drone attacks using a combination of smaller, cost-effective interceptor drones and electronic jamming systems. Zelensky added that nearly a dozen countries have requested Ukrainian guidance on drone defence.

Tensions with Hungary

Zelensky also addressed Hungary directly, stating he is prepared to work with any leader in Budapest committed to peace and cooperation with Ukraine. “We are ready for friendly collaboration if this person is not an ally of Putin, the aggressor state,” he said.

He criticised the current Hungarian government for fostering anti-Ukrainian sentiment, claiming this harms economic relations, post-war recovery, trade, and people-to-people relations between the neighbouring nations. He highlighted that Russian communication advisors are reportedly present in Hungary, assisting with the electoral process, and warned against policies that block support intended for Ukraine.

On energy, Zelensky described the revival of the Friendship oil pipeline, which European allies linked to a EUR 90 billion loan, as coercive, stating, “I told our European friends that this is what we call blackmail.”

    • That is one of the oldest Russian propaganda ploys to make stories about your opponents being drug addicts. They were doing this during the days of the Soviet Union. Zelensky does have a good relationship with the EU and in fact much better than what is left of Hungary’s relationship under fat man Orban. Ukraine is the front-line against Russian imperial expansion into Europe. Those people are incredibly brave and strong to hold off the Russian army to puny gains in over four years of war. Putin’s war is a failure and all the propaganda that Orban has put out about Ukraine losing is straight from the Kremlin. We now have Sweden and Finland in NATO and Finland has changed its’ policy to now allow nuclear weapons to be stationed there which will be quite short range from places like St. Petersberg, but more importantly incredibly close to Russian forces in the Kola peninsula. Putin screwed himself Boris.

  1. That was a quite logical comment by Zelensky. Ukraine does not want to work with allies of barbaric war criminal Putin who has been killing Ukrainians. Fortunately Ukrainian forces have been able to kill far more Russians to make Russia bleed both men and its’ economy. Slava Ukraini!

  2. ‘Zelensky: I’m willing to work with any Hungarian leader who isn’t Putin’s ally.’

In that case, My Dear Volodymyr, you will be working with no one, from Hungary, because neither Magyar Péter or Dobrev Klara will be Hungary’s next prime minister.
