The Csabai Sausage Festival in Békéscsaba has been named the third-best autumn food festival in Europe for 2026, according to a new ranking by travel website Enjoy Travel.
Hungarian flavours take centre stage at Csabai Sausage Festival
Autumn is harvest season across Europe, bringing a wave of food festivals celebrating local ingredients, culinary traditions and regional specialities. Among the 25 events highlighted by Enjoy Travel this year, Hungary’s Csabai Sausage Festival secured third place, putting the country’s famous Békéscsaba sausage in the international spotlight.
The four-day festival will take place in Békéscsaba from 22 to 25 October 2026, offering visitors the chance to sample the region’s renowned smoky and spicy sausage in a variety of forms. According to Enjoy Travel, the event stands out for its combination of traditional Hungarian cuisine and contemporary entertainment.
The programme includes sausage-making competitions, live cooking demonstrations and live entertainment, making it an event aimed not only at food enthusiasts but also at families. The festival is particularly known for its kolbászgyúró, or sausage-making competition, where amateur and professional teams compete while showcasing the traditions behind one of Hungary’s best-known regional foods.

Four days of food, music and tradition
The 29th edition of the Csabai Sausage Festival will offer more than tastings. Visitors can learn about traditional sausage-making, take part in gastronomic demonstrations and presentations, and enjoy concerts and other entertainment throughout the event. Tickets are already on sale. During the Early Bird period, day tickets cost HUF 7,500, while a four-day pass is available for HUF 18,900.
There is also a special offer on the opening day. On 22 October, entry is free until 2 PM for visitors who enter the festival grounds by that time and remain inside for the rest of the day. The festival’s musical programme will provide another major attraction, with popular Hungarian musical performers scheduled for every day of the programme.
Békéscsaba beats famous European food festivals
The Hungarian event’s third-place ranking puts it just behind two internationally famous festivals. Oktoberfest in Munich came second, while the Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival in Ireland topped the 2026 list.
The ranking places the Csabai Sausage Festival ahead of a wide range of established European culinary events, highlighting the international appeal of Hungary’s traditional food culture.
