A 64-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing two young men during an altercation in Debrecen in the early hours of Saturday morning, Hungarian police said.

The incident happened on Múzeum Street at around 3 AM on 29 August, when police received a report that two young men had been stabbed. Several police units and emergency medical crews were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Two young men taken to hospital
Paramedics took the two injured men to hospital, while police officers began searching for the suspect based on a description provided by witnesses.
According to police, officers searched the surrounding streets and located the 64-year-old man approximately two hours after the incident. He was handcuffed and taken to police headquarters for questioning. Investigators subsequently questioned him as a suspect, placed him under arrest and initiated proceedings for his detention.

One victim suffered life-threatening injuries
Based on the information available so far, the man became involved in a verbal altercation with the two young men before allegedly pulling out a knife and stabbing both of them. Police later established that one of the victims, a 23-year-old man, suffered life-threatening injuries, while his 24-year-old friend sustained serious injuries.
The Hajdú-Bihar County Police Headquarters’ Criminal Directorate is investigating the Budapest resident on suspicion of causing life-threatening bodily harm. The investigation is ongoing, and further details about the circumstances leading up to the confrontation have not yet been released.
