A four-storey industrial building undergoing demolition has collapsed in Székesfehérvár, while two cars collided head-on near Budapest, on the slip road between the M0 ring road and Route 1 at Biatorbágy.

Cause of collapse remains unknown

The building in Székesfehérvár gave way on Monday, trapping one person beneath the rubble, according to Hungary’s state news agency MTI. The report was confirmed by the deputy spokesperson of the Fejér County Directorate for Disaster Management.

Fire crews from Székesfehérvár are at the scene and have begun rescue operations. Additional units, including teams with search dogs, are en route as efforts intensify.

In a statement posted shortly after the incident, the city’s mayor, András Cser-Palkovics, said the building is located on the southern side of the railway station. He added that the trapped individual has been located and that rescue efforts are ongoing.

“I trust that the specialists will succeed swiftly, and I would like to express my thanks for their work,” he said.

The mayor noted that the circumstances surrounding the collapse remain unclear, promising further updates as more information becomes available.

Update: according to the recue services, the man stuck under the collapsed building was taken out, but suffered life-threatening injuries.

Head-on collision on the M0

In a separate incident, two cars collided head-on on the slip road linking the M0 ring road and Route 1 near Biatorbágy, prompting traffic restrictions, disaster management authorities said on Monday.

Firefighters from Törökbálint disconnected the vehicles’ power supplies. A total of three people were travelling in the cars at the time of the crash.
