Besides the incredible success of Hungarian movies, fashion designers also have amazing achievements. We have already written about a more down-to-earth approach to Hungarian fashion design: popular backpacks. Now, let us get familiar with Hungarian designers whose dresses are on runways and Hollywood stars all over the world.
Szandra Sándor, owner and designer of the brand called Nanushka, is so successful that last week, she participated in the New York Fashion Week for the second time – and, let me tell you, the jury loved her collection. She introduced her Spring/Summer 2019 Totem collection which is deeply rooted in ancient Egyptian culture and symbolism.

“It is a huge honour that we can be here again at the New York Fashion Week. I could not even believe that more than 500 visitors registered for my presentation but, unfortunately, we had to draw a line in terms of the number of our guests” – said Szandra in an interview, as Bors.hu reported.
What is more: previously, over the summer, Hollywood stars such as Dua Lipa and Kendall Jenner were photographed wearing Nanushka clothes.
Dóra Abodi, the creator of ABODI products, literally exploded the Hungarian and international fashion world. Her works are best described with words such as elegant, feminine and sophisticated, sort of “French-style”.
One expression to describe her unique and original style would be ‘detailed luxury’.
Nevertheless, the dresses and accessories are full of details that are worth looking at: the creations are made from high-quality materials that combine traditional Hungarian handcraft and artisanship with an emotional attitude and luxury. She has received professional recognition, too: she was among the 10 best in Vogue’s talent designer competition and had a chance to introduce her collection in Paris (at haute couture shows), the New York Fashion Week and Milano.
Although her dresses are exploratory pieces, they are perfect for daily wear as well.
Nothing proves this more than the numerous movie stars and singers who wear clothes designed by Dóra Abodi: Taylor Swift, Rita Ora, Lady Gaga, Lindsay Lohan, Olivia Munn and Tyra Banks all adore her creations.
Recently, Juli Jakab, protagonist of the new Nemes-Jeles film, Sunset, wore her design in the Marie Claire magazine.
Naturally, the name of fashion designers such as Nanushka and Dóra Abodi do not need much explanation, even on an international scale. However, it is good to see that, besides the aces of Hungarian fashion design, stars are discovering smaller, internationally lesser-known Hungarian designers, too.
One of the hottest designers is Fábián Kis-Juhász who can boast of fans like Christina Aguilera and Barbara Palvin, just to mention but a few of his clients.
The young designer graduated from the famous Royal College of Arts in London, with his diploma work debuting in the Ukrainian Vogue in a photoshoot with Barbara Palvin, the world-famous Hungarian model.
“I was so surprised and happy when they asked me [to dress Christina]! I have had dress requests for several Solange photoshoots and a Beyoncé clip as well.” – told Fábián Kis-Juhász to the Hungarian Instyle magazine.
