A 22-year-old Hungarian man has been placed in temporary extradition custody after Danish authorities issued a European Arrest Warrant over allegations that he lured a 15-year-old Danish girl to Hungary for the purpose of subjecting her to sexual offences.
The Budapest-Capital Regional Court ordered the man’s temporary detention on Tuesday. At his hearing, he consented to being handed over to Danish authorities, although he asked to retain his rights under the so-called principle of speciality. This means that, if extradited, Danish authorities may only prosecute him for the offences specified in the European Arrest Warrant. The court is expected to decide on his simplified extradition no later than 21 August.
Man allegedly met girl through social media
According to the court, the Hungarian national met the girl through social media in January 2026. Authorities allege that he exploited her young age and lack of experience to manipulate her and establish a relationship with her, using what the court described as an “exploitative position of superiority”.
On 4 August, the man and an unidentified accomplice allegedly brought the 15-year-old from Denmark to Hungary with the intention of subjecting her to sexual offences.
The Horsens City Court in Denmark issued a European Arrest Warrant for the man on suspicion of kidnapping, unlawful detention or hostage-taking, exploitation of children and child pornography. Under Danish law, the offence listed in the warrant carries a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.

Hungarian authorities arrested him following Danish alert
The man was arrested by Hungarian police based on a so-called SIS II alert issued by Danish authorities through the Schengen Information System.
At Tuesday’s hearing, he agreed to be handed over to Denmark but did not waive his right to the principle of speciality. Consequently, if he is extradited, proceedings against him may not be launched or continued for offences other than those specified in the European Arrest Warrant, subject to the applicable legal rules.
The Budapest-Capital Regional Court has ordered his temporary extradition detention while the authorities complete the process. A decision on his simplified extradition must be made by 21 August at the latest.
