Orbán cabinet may detain Hungary’s former chief of staff for high treason linked to the Ukrainian ‘espionage scandal’

According to Péter Magyar, leader of the opposition Tisza party, Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi can be detained soon for cooperating with Ukrainian spies. Magyar said such allegations were insane, since Ruszin-Szendi passed multiple national security clearances to become chief of staff, contrary to, for example, the prime minister. Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, said those who did not commit high treason should not be worried.
Orbán cabinet may detain Hungary’s former chief of staff, says Magyar
According to a gloomy, black-suit-black-tie video shared by Péter Magyar, Hungarian authorities could detain Hungary’s former chief of staff, Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi. He served as the chief of staff of the Hungarian Defence Forces between June 2021 and 31 December 2022, as the youngest in that position.
Magyar said Ruszin-Szendi passed multiple national security clearances, but the Orbán cabinet still would like to detain him for conspiring with Ukrainian spies. As we wrote before, the Hungarian government is building a story of Ukrainian spies who managed to corrupt the strongest Hungarian opposition party and its leader, Péter Magyar. According to them, that is why a Ukrainian national and illegal agent, Roland Tseber, organised Magyar’s trip to Kyiv last year. Magyar drew public attention to Tseber’s help for Levente Magyar, Hungary’s deputy foreign minister. Here is our article covering the issue and what he told RTL Klub.

Magyar called all accusations against Ruszin-Szendi false. Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, said those who follow the laws should not be worried. Máté Kocsis, the parliamentary group leader of Orbán’s Fidesz, said that a high-ranking Hungarian soldier was in touch with two persons spying for Ukraine.
My conscience is clear, says Ruszin-Szendi
“My conscience is clear. I have always worked for this country, and I will always continue to do so; that is beyond doubt. Do I know István Holló? [István Holló is, allegedly, another Ukrainian spy detected by the Hungarian authorities – DNH] Yes. I met István Holló twice, in the same circles that Péter [Magyar – DNH] mentioned. In a public place, with a larger group, in the autumn and winter of 2023. I have not spoken to him since then“, the former Hungarian chief of staff said after giving donations to a Hungarian foster care institution with the party leader.

“This is not evidence, and it proves nothing because nothing happened. I reject the accusation that I disclosed any classified information about Hungary. I did not do so, unlike the Defence Minister [Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky – DNH], who quoted from classified NATO documents at an open parliamentary committee meeting.”
