A 49-year-old man allegedly beat, threatened and tortured his partner before forcing her into a forest to dig what was intended to be her own grave. He is now facing charges that could carry up to 12 years in prison.

Woman allegedly forced to dig her own grave

Prosecutors in Győr have charged a 49-year-old man who allegedly subjected his partner to a brutal attack, including forcing her to dig her own grave in a nearby forest.

According to the indictment cited by the Győr District Prosecutor’s Office, the man and the woman had been in a relationship for around a year and a half when they had an argument at their home in Győr in November 2025.

The man allegedly slapped the woman several times before threatening her with a handgun and ordering her to take a shovel with her. He then took her to a forest and forced her to start digging a grave for herself.

The prosecutor’s account says the attack then escalated. The man allegedly pushed the woman to the ground, sat on her chest and forced soil into her mouth until she lost consciousness.

Alleged torture continued at home

When the woman regained consciousness, the man allegedly took her back home, where the abuse continued.

According to prosecutors, he pressed a hot spoon against her body and extinguished cigarette butts on her.

The woman eventually managed to end the relationship, but the alleged abuse did not stop there. The man reportedly threatened her repeatedly after their separation.

Unlicensed shotgun seized during search

A subsequent search of the man’s residence uncovered weapons, according to the prosecutor’s office. Authorities allegedly seized a gas alarm gun as well as an illegally held hunting shotgun and ammunition.

The man, who is currently in custody, has been charged with an aggravated form of unlawful deprivation of liberty, an aggravated form of relationship violence, and the unlawful possession and misuse of firearms and ammunition.

Taking the offences together under Hungary’s sentencing rules, he could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted. The Győr District Court is expected to make the substantive decision in the case.
