Nógrád County Attorney General’s Office charged the man with human trafficking and other serious crimes.
The Nógrád County Attorney General’s Office has prosecuted a 22-year-old man in Salgótarján for human trafficking and other serious crimes. The man employed workers in his home in inhumane conditions. – writes Telex.
The man made his victims work between 2018 and 2020 at his house. They did house chores and construction work. The victims were lured to the house with the promise of wage, accommodation and food. All of the victims were people from backgrounds that made them vulnerable.
The man also bought people. A man who had a tutor was bought for 70,000 forints (EUR 195.52).
The victims did not get proper accommodation, and they were not allowed to enter the house, not even to use the bathroom. They slept in what Hungarians call “summer kitchen”, which is usually an additional part or building to the property, a separate small space for cooking specifically. Some victims slept in a car that was out of use – writes ugyeszseg.hu. The perpetrator’s permission was necessary to leave the property, and if this restrain was not taken into consideration, the criminal used abuse to wield power over the victims.
On one occasion, he tied back the victim’s hands and chained the person treated as a slave.
Men and women alike were held captive, and women were even raped or forced into sexual relationships. When the 22 years old man could not sleep, he forced one of the victims to spend the night with him. Another woman was convinced to live at the criminal’s house, but after her arrival, she was raped by another man at the perpetrator’s request. After this, a second man was forced to have a sexual relationship with the woman.
The perpetrator also bought a car in a victim’s name and avoided paying property acquisition tax.
A few of the slaves could escape, and they managed to report the case to the police. The 22 years old man was charged with human trafficking, crimes against sexual morality, violation of personal liberty and forgery of public documents. If the motion of the Attorney General’s Office is accepted, the man will go to prison, will not be able to take part in public affairs, his property will be confiscated, and he will have to pay 477.490 forints (EUR 1333.78) as “criminal costs”.
