Sziget Festival founder Károly Gerendai has vowed that there will be no power or water shortages at this year’s event.

Gerendai told MTI on Friday that daily attendance of 60,000-70,000 would be reassuring, and the festival would not need to use its backup diesel generators, which have a larger environmental footprint. Whereas the festival has enough generators to cover 95 percent of its power needs, recent government announcements suggest no additional self-imposed restrictions from the country’s grid will be required, he added.
To mitigate water supply issues, organisers have installed sprinkler systems at their own expense and prepared water tanks in case of low pressure in the main system. They have also laid down more walkway panels than in previous years to reduce dust on the main stage area, he noted.
Gerendai said ticket sales have slowed in the past week or two, likely due to the “mood of catastrophe” caused by extreme heat and energy restrictions. However, he said a sell-out crowd was unlikely, and 60,000-70,000 punters a day would be preferable to the permitted 95,000 in the current dry and dusty conditions.
Major international performers coming to Sziget Festival 2026
The official programme runs from 11 to 16 August on Óbuda Island (Hajógyári Island), with headliners including Twenty One Pilots, Florence + The Machine, Bring Me The Horizon, Skrillex, Zara Larsson, and Lewis Capaldi. Two Hungarian acts, Sisi and Carson Coma, will also perform on the main stage.
Other announced performers include Ashnikko, Biffy Clyro, Parcels, Underworld, Wolf Alice, Richie Hawtin, Dom Dolla, Sara Landry and Hungarian rapper Beton.Hofi. Organisers say the complete festival will feature more than 600 music, theatre, circus, dance, workshop and sporting programmes.

A special Day Zero will also be held on 10 August, reviving a feature familiar from earlier editions of Sziget. Faithless, Morcheeba and Goran Bregović and his Wedding and Funeral Orchestra will return to evoke some of the festival’s most memorable previous decades.
Sziget Festival in Hungarian ownership again
In November 2025, the festival left Superstruct and returned to the hands of its founder, Károly Gerendai, and the existing management team. Gerendai rejoined Sziget after an eight-year absence, while chief executive Tamás Kádár remained in his position.
The new owners have placed renewed emphasis on Sziget’s relationship with Budapest, its cultural diversity and its identity as an independent festival. Sziget City is one of the clearest signs of that strategy: an attempt to ensure that international visitors discover not only the stages of the Island of Freedom, but also the neighbourhoods, clubs and cultural communities that shape Budapest throughout the year.
