Survey: Hungarians wary of renewed migration wave, terror attacks

terrorism crime criminal

Budapest, September 26 (MTI) – The vast majority of Hungarians are concerned that a new migration wave could hit Europe in the near future and that the continent could soon be struck by another terrorist attack, according to a fresh survey by the Nézőpont Institute commissioned by the daily Magyar Idők.

Nézőpont found that 81 percent of the Hungarian public believe Europe could be hit by a new migration wave over the next year, while only 15 percent of the survey’s respondents considered this unlikely. Among respondents identifying as left-wing supporters, 82 percent said that an influx of migrants into Europe could pick up over the next year. This view was shared by 77 percent of non-committed voters.

Altogether 89 percent of respondents were concerned that Europe could soon be hit by another terrorist attack compared with 8 percent who said they were not concerned about the threat of terrorism.

Nézőpont found that concern over terrorism was equally high “irrespective of party preference”.

The survey was conducted between September 18 and 21 with a sample of 1,000 people.
