A fatal road accident claimed one life and left two other people injured on Wednesday evening in Budapest’s District XX after two passenger cars collided at the junction of Udvarhely Street and Hunyadi Square in Pesterzsébet.
According to the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK), the crash occurred at around 9:30 PM on 15 July. The impact was so severe that one of the vehicles overturned, while the other slammed into an electricity pole.
Firefighters rescued trapped victim
Emergency services, including police, firefighters and paramedics, were dispatched to the scene shortly after the collision.
Police said one person became trapped between one of the vehicles and the electricity pole. Firefighters from the Budapest Fire Brigade used hydraulic rescue equipment to free the victim.
The passenger of the car that struck the pole suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of that vehicle was injured, as was the driver of the overturned car. Both were taken to hospital by ambulance. No further information has been released about the severity of their injuries.

Police launch criminal investigation
The Budapest Police Headquarters has launched a criminal investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the fatal crash.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what caused the collision or whether speeding, failure to give way or any other traffic offence may have contributed to the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
