Budapest (MTI) – A Budapest court sentenced Abel S., a young man who fired shots in a fast-food restaurant in central Budapest two years ago, to five years in prison, his lawyer told MTI on Wednesday.
The decision will be appealed, the defence lawyer Barnabas Futo said.
The indictment said Abel S had fired several shots into the ceiling of the fast food outlet, injuring nobody. The young man was apprehended shortly after in the same street. He was sentenced on charges of abuse of firearms and disturbing the peace.
Abel S. was earlier sentenced to two and a half years in prison for preparations to kill fellow-students at Budapest’s ELTE university. He had spent 21 months in pre-trial detention, but the appellate court reversed the earlier ruling and reduced the sentence to 50 days of community work. He is now suing the state for damages.
