Here is the crime map of the Hungarian countryside that shows which counties are the most dangerous to live in right now.
HelloVidék has looked at which counties have seen the most crime in the last year. On top of that, they also reported on the safest regions in the country.
As we can read in HelloVidék’s article, according to the data of KSH (Központi Statisztikai Hivatal – Hungarian Central Statistical Office), in 2021,
there has been an improvement in crime rates in a number of areas: there were fewer incidents of criminal mischief and fewer drunk drivers on the roads in Hungary.
Even though fewer people were caught with false documents, there were more people who owned forged documents. Presumably, the main reason for this was the introduction of immunity and vaccination cards. What is more, there was an increase in vandalism and fraud.
The classification of offences falls into the following statistical categories:
offences committed in public places, assault, theft, theft of a vehicle, lock-picking of a motor vehicle, burglary, criminal damage, robbery, criminal damage to property

As the map demonstrates, Budapest is by far the most crime-ridden city.
The capital has the highest number of crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, with a total of 1,781 in the last year. In second place is the first rural county, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén. There, a total of 1,424 crimes were committed per 100,000 inhabitants in the last year.
In third and fourth places, in a tie, are the two counties of the North-Hungarian region, Heves and Nógrád counties.
While last year Tolna County, on the west bank of the river Danube, came third, the current data shows that even neighbouring Somogy County had more crimes than Tolna.
Hajdú-Bihar (731) is at the bottom of the list with a low infestation rate. Csongrád-Csanád follows with 809 recorded crimes. Békés county is also quite peaceful (885 crimes). More than 2.5 times more crimes (per 100,000 inhabitants) were registered in Budapest than in Hajdú-Bihar.

Wow i never thought that in the capital there’s much more crime? Of course, there’s foreigners to rob right?
The part to avoid in Budapest is most of District 8.
the part to currently avoid is The Parliament…
I could barely discern the colour differences so at first I had to just laugh. And I even have my glasses on! Naturally where people are squeezed together there is less knowing your neighbours enough to speak to. People knowing one another well is a proven deterrent since easy identification & shame comes into play. Too many things for the eye to see creates greed & then bad behaviors. Stress as a result of not doing enough outdoor physical work/activity also plays a role in crime rates. Also, allowing places to get dirty, with no punishments for littering, spitting, smoking on public places etc all are big markers for people feeling hopeless and disrespecting society as a whole. Like marking one’s body to make a person less employable, marking property which does not belong to them has also been proven to invite criminals & crime. So unfortunately, the larger the population of an area, even in the short term (like during sport events or education) the more
chance of people disrespecting others or the property of others.
